Elementary Physical Fitness Meet

Top elementary athletes compete at parish fitness meet
Pine Wood Elementary hosted the Beauregard Parish Elementary Physical Fitness Meet
Wednesday, March 25, for contestants from seven parish schools.
The top three boys and top three girls from the competitions at
each school earned the opportunity to compete in the parish meet.
These schools include: Carver Elementary, East Beauregard
Elementary, Merryville High School, Pine Wood Elementary, Singer
High School, South Beauregard Elementary, and South Beauregard
Upper Elementary.
Seven events, including the 50-yard dash, 600-yard run, shuttle
run, sit and reach, standing long jump, pull ups, and curl ups were
staged at the DHS track and PWE gymnasium.
The Pine Wood Elementary Team took first place, and overall
individual winner for boys and girls events were: E’moni Taylor, PWE,
first place boys, Jaden
LeBouef, SBUE, first place
girls, Jack Granger, PWE, second place boys,
MaKyra Norris, PWE, second place girls, Gunnar
Sarver, EBE, third place boys, and Jessica Bellamy,
PWE third place girls.
“The annual Physical Fitness Meet promotes
exercise and physical fitness for all our elementary
students and gives our elementary student athletes a
chance to excel in competition,” said Steve Newsom,
Supervisor of Physical Education.
All participants received a medal and t-shirt.
The top three overall point scorers for both boys and girls were given plaques. Winners scoring
first and second place overall for boys and girls compete at the state contest at Louisiana State
University in Baton Rouge. The third place overall scorers will serve as the alternates for the
state event.
Local sponsors for the event were: Beauregard Memorial

Parish New Car Group, Bardin Vending, Dr. David Brown,
McDonald’s, Morris Tire, Brookshire Bros. West, Paws N Claws,
and Wal-Mart.
“We want to thank all our sponsors, coaches, and
volunteers who help make this event possible each year,” said
Newsom. “It is important to promote physical fitness for all our
students, and this event is one way of sending the message that
exercise and fun go hand in hand,” concluded Newsom.
The Physical Fitness program is sponsored by the
Louisiana Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports.
