SUMMER 2015 CLASS SCHEDULE
Class Guidelines
Telephone and online registration gladly accepted, but fees must be paid within 48 hours of registering or your
name may be removed from the class list.
Class fees are non-refundable due to the commitment we have made to our instructors.
Register early, as space is limited and we are unable to offer a waiting list for some of our classes due to scheduling conflicts.
Supplies are not included with the registration fee unless otherwise stated. A supply list is given to the student when the class fee is paid. Some supplies can be brought from home; the rest is understood to be purchased at Ben Franklin Crafts with a 10% discount on non-sale class supplies only.
If 3 or fewer students register for a class, the class will be cancelled due to a lack of enrollment.
Samples of class projects will be on display in our store.
Age requirements are listed after each class title.
Classes require the ability to work independently with guidance from the teacher. If you require extra assistance,
please contact the store prior to class to set up necessary accommodations.
Ben Franklin Crafts reserves the right to refuse any enrollment or cancel any class.
ART
#1 Altoid Tin Assemblage: Ages 13+
Instructor: Suzanne Hufford Fee: $10.00
Wednesday, July 15

Learn how to alter a regular sized Altoid tin into a piece of assemblage art using paper, common
art supplies and funky found objects. Instructor will collect $5 materials fee at start of class.
Prerequisite: Student is able to cut with scissors.
#2 Zentangle 1: Ages 10-12

If you can draw a dot, line, C-shape, letter S and a circle, then you can create Zentangle
art...ONE STROKE AT A TIME. You can draw cool stuff and impress your friends and family...all
with just a black ink pen, piece of paper and a pencil! You will learn 4 new patterns (tangles) on
a 4-1/2" card.
#3 Zentangle 1: Ages 13+

(tangles) with a black ink pen and experiment with colored pencils within an animal shape.
You can bring your own colored pencils or borrow from the instructor.

KNITTING
#6 Learn to Knit: Ages 10+

Learn how to cast on, bind off and work the knit stitch while making a sweater for your cell
phone. You’ll have video-supported “homework” to complete between our class meetings.
ORIGAMI
#7 Beginning Origami: Ages 10-12

This class is designed for the beginner to the Asian art of paper folding. Learn the basic folding techniques by making a variety of origami projects. The class will also introduce the art of
modular origami and simple 3D origami. Instructor will collect $5 materials fee at start of
class.

RUBBER STAMPING
#9 Rubber Stamping 101: Ages 10+

Learn how to ink and use rubber stamps to create cards for your friends & relatives. Coloring
techniques, masking, simple embellishments and more will be explored. Some supplies will
be provided, keeping this a budget-friendly class.

SEWING
#10 Beginning Sewing 1 - Pillow: Ages 10+

Learn about how to measure and cut out fabric pieces for a pillow, threading your sewing machine & winding the bobbin, pressing seams with a hot steam iron, and some hand sewing with
needle & thread.
Prerequisite: Student understands safety precautions considering that we'll be using irons, rotary
cutters, pins & needles, and student is able to cut with scissors.

Sew up some fun summer shorts or pants using woven cotton fabrics. Thread your sewing machine with guidance. Learn about fabric layout & pattern cutting. Insert elastic or a drawstring at
the waist. we'll cover hem stitching options to finish your project.
Prerequisite: Some previous basic exposure to sewing preferred.
#13 Beginning Sewing 2 - Summer Shorts or Pants: Ages 13+
