We did get a few more ideas submitted and are searching for even more. You will notice lighting improvements in various areas of the club for increased security and safety. The Board is beginning the 2016 capital improvements planning process and would love to have more input. Please don’t hesitate to contact Adrian, any of the Board members, or just leave us a note via the front desk. Summer is almost upon us, and although the weather lately has been conducive to playing outdoor tennis, we remind you to check out the summer lesson schedule. Particularly attractive are the Junior classes with a new lower cost structure. Get your young tennis player tuned up during their summer vacation. And if you’d rather play indoors yourself, remember that court availability is traditionally better during the summer months. With the year almost half gone, it’s not too early to think about 2016. The Board will begin its search for new Board member candidates soon with elections to follow later in the year. We need a mix of current Boeing employees as well as retirees. If you are interested in serving, please contact any of the current Board members for information. We are here to serve (and volley). Feel free to let us know how to make BETC even better. Use a smooth gentle swing to hit down and around the ball. Imagine that your racket is a butterfly net and you are trying to catch a butterfly by gently scooping down and around the butterfly. This will create excellent under spin. Finish with your racket pointing toward your target. A memorable French Open just concluded and one shot you probably saw used often is the drop shot. The drop shot works best with good disguise and shot selection. Make sure your opponent is behind the baseline when you are attempting a drop shot and that you are inside of your baseline. Take your racket back as if you are going to hit a topspin drive. Open your racket face slightly just So to hit a good drop shot like the pros, use disguise. Open your racket face and catch the ball like a butterfly by scooping down and around the ball with a gentle smooth swing. Finish with your racket pointing toward your target. You will then be surprised how easy it will be to hit a great drop shot. The open stance footwork for both the forehand and backhand groundstroke has become very prevalent for the pros as well as for club players. The obvious benefit of this footwork is on wide shots, which will help you cover more court. BILL BARTLETT The Boeing Employees junior program is having great success with many of its juniors excelling in local and national tournaments. Our 10 and under program is starting to show the fruit of many hours of hard work they put in. BETC coach Jim Robison has done a great job instilling high standards for technique, strategy, conditioning and attitude. Eight year old Isabella Leon reached the final of the Aces Challenger summer 10 and under orange ball tennis tournament. Ayaka Ohara won the consolation division. It was reported by parents that both girls were very focused, had a lot of fun and used the techniques that Jim has taught them. It was the first time Isabella decided to serve over head in a tournament. In the girls 10 challenger rolling standing rankings in orange ball Misako Wongpa is ranked 1 and Isabella Leon is number 4. For the Girls 10 Champion rolling standing rankings Martina Antich is 8 and Isabella Leon is 15. Way to go Girls! Capital City tennis Champs held in Tumwater: Kaitlin Tan reached the final of the girls 16 singles. Jesse Maris reached the final of the boys 12 consolation event. Cameron Martin won the boys 18 singles consolation event over Ryan Meredith. These juniors participated: Wyatt DeMulling, Kaylah Tan, Tesse Tapmongkol and Erika Ito.
