HBGC NEW LEADERS INSTITUTE May 9 - August 22 Are you a youth ages 14-22 that identifies as a person of color and as LGBTQ* (Including same gender loving/gender non-conforming) Do you have a love for your community and a passion for social justice? Are you interested in working with likeminded youth to produce your own community event or social justice campaign? Then HBGC’s New Leaders Institute is for you! The Hispanic Black Gay Coalition’s New Leaders Institute is an activist development program for black and Latino/a & other LGBTQ youth of color in the Boston Metropolitan Area. Over the course of 14 weeks, participants will attend a series of workshops ranging from Trans 101 to Civic Engagement. Participants will also have the chance to give back to their communities by using the skills that they have learned through the workshops to collaborate on two events in their own communities. What can participants expect to gain from participating in the New Leaders Institute? - Build your resume and extend your professional network Gain experience organizing and implementing projects, events, and campaigns for social change in your own community Meet and collaborate with other LGBTQ youth of color looking to make an impact in their communities Receive ongoing support from HBGC in launching your own group or organization Receive end-of-program certificates and references that may be helpful in gaining future employment What are the New Leaders Institute program application requirements? - All applicants must be able attend ALL scheduled workshops and events. All applicants must identify as an LGBTQ and as person of color. All applicants must be between the ages of 14 and 22 years old. All applicants should have a love for their community and a passion for social justice and community outreach & education.
