Philanthropy Council
Since our founding in 1916, the Beverly Hills Women’s Club has been a leader in
philanthropic efforts in the community. For many of us, the Club’s charitable endeavors
are an opportunity to work together and make a contribution to those who are less
fortunate.
In the coming months, the BHWC Philanthropy Council will partner with other local
nonprofit organizations on exciting projects. We are thrilled to announce that we will
be working with UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital, Dress for Success and College Track.
Under the dedicated direction of Lori Gordon, Debbie Isaacman and Laurie Okum, we
will kick off our 7th annual backpack drive in June to benefit the Salvation Army/Bessie
Pregerson Center. Look for announcements about the drive in your email inbox.
For more information about the Club’s philanthropic efforts, contact Tricia Nelson,
[email protected] or Betsy Hely, [email protected]

Art Talk:
Georges Braque
Join BHWC President and Art
Historian, Mumsey Nemiroff for
a fascinating look at the work of French painter, collagist,
sculptor, printmaker and draughtsman, Georges Braque;
best known for his most important contribution to art - his
role in the development of what became known as
Cubism. In this Braque’s work is intertwined with that of
his collaborator Pablo Picasso. Along with Cubism, Braque
used the styles of Impressionism, Fauvism and collage, and
even staged designs for the Ballets Russes. Through his
career, his style changed to portray somber subjects
during wartime and lighter, freer themes in between. He
never strayed far from Cubism, as there were always
aspects of it in his works.

Annual Members’ Meeting
It’s that time of the year again! Join fellow BHWC
Members for an exciting presentation as we look at the past
year and share our exciting plans about the upcoming
2015 - 2016 programming, restoration and fundraising.
An official “Thank You” to the outgoing Board and an
introduction and “Welcome” of the incoming Board will
also commence.
Where is our beloved city headed? What are the visions and
goals for this town we consider home? Here to answer these
questions is fellow member, 35 year Beverly Hills resident,
and City Councilmember Nancy Krasne.
Nancy has served as vice chair of the Architectural
Commission, a member of the Planning Commission, a board
member of the National Council of Jewish Women and also a
board member of the Los Angeles Child Guidance Clinic. In
addition to the BHWC, she is also a member of Friends of
Greystone, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art
Costume Council.
At the site of the last recorded battle between the Native
Americans and the settlers in Beverly Hills, how fitting for us to
welcome Julia Bogany, Vice President of Keepers of Indigenous
Ways, for a cleansing and blessing of our Clubhouse.
Mystics say the Native American practice of smudging, or
purifying a room with the smoke of sacred herbs, can clear past
energy and welcome in positivity.

This is the complete history of photography and an
important lecture for all to hear. Photographs touch and
shape our lives, decisions and perspective everyday and in
so many ways. This lecture will give you the complete
“picture” on just how important photography is to all of
us.
We start in the days of Aristotle where he used a pin hole
to view the eclipse, and move through the key moments
in photographic history that highlight the great uses and
developments in technology. We will look at the primary
images that rocked the world, what made them great and
discover how our own brain has a “photographic memory
bank” that truly defines the concept that picture is worth
a thousand words.

Dear Members,
It is spring and time to consider contributing to our Annual Estate Sale.
This year, we have changed things up a bit and decided upon limiting
donations.
Quality housewares, furnishings, vintage, silver, crystal, pillows, lamps, tables
and chairs, as well as gently used and antique goods are desired for our annual
estate sale.
If you are redecorating and would consider donating your wares, it will go a
long way in helping us reach our goals in maintaining our beautiful Clubhouse.
We so appreciate your generosity.
For questions, please contact Raleigh Robinson during the day at
(310) 276-3452 or by email [email protected] and/or Theresa at the Club.
Members are encouraged to bring a guest to any event in
May/June program book with the exception of the
Mothers' Day luncheon.
If their guest joins the club, the member and the new
member will be invited to a special complimentary elegant luncheon
event during the summer at the beautifully appointed, art-filled home of
the Club President.
A special thank you to our dancers who brightened up the day with their smiles
and dazzling dance moves! Santron Freeman, Shaun Walker and Maurice
Rabsatt
