Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for your support of the 5th annual Big Apple Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Open! Our goal is to provide a
safe but challenging and fun experience for your child to grow physically, socially, and mentally.
You should have all received a registration confirmation for the tournament. For your convenience, we have included
further details and important directions below:

Time:
Approximate start time 9 a.m.
*** Do not arrive earlier than 8:45 a.m. Athletes should arrive 30 minutes before
scheduled fight time.
Location:
Martin Luther King Jr. High School,
122 Amsterdam at 65th street.
Closest public transportation is the 1 train at 66th street-Lincoln Center
Entering Building:
You will be required to check in with security at the main entrance. From there, you will
descend to the basement via the stairwell on the left and follow the signs for the
tournament to the main gym.
Spectator Fee:
One parent or one guardian of the athlete are allowed free entry.

Uniform:
We follow the IBJJF rule requirement for Gis (uniform).
Gi’s MUST BE Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi’s Uniform Top and pants should be the same color.
Any female competitors must wear a sports shirt/rashguard under their Gi top.
Weigh in:
VERY IMPORTANT!!! Weigh ins are with the GI and BELT ON and are done no more
than 30 minutes before the scheduled fight time.
There will be a 2 pound allowance for children under 13. It is the responsibility of the
parent to ensure that your child is in the correct weight class given upon registration, or
you may be disqualified and your child will NOT be able to compete.
There is no option to change or add to brackets. Please make sure your child is on weight,
and not approximate, as we will adhere strictly to these rules.
Notes:
Parents are not allowed inside the bull pen or competition area. They must stay around
the perimeter, and can pick up their child at the entrance of the bull pen once their child
has finished their match(es).
We do not give out consolation prizes. This is a single elimination style

tournament. Medals will be given out for 1 , 2 , and 3 place.

and a memorable experience for your child.
