TIPS FOR WORKING WITH LAMINATES
What is laminated cotton?
Laminated cotton is just what the name
implies–a base of quilting-weight cotton
fabric topped by a clear polyurethane
coating. The clear coating on the fabric's
right side repels moisture, while the cotton
backing adds warmth, strength and drape.
<USPRLVPSJSV[OSHTPUH[LKJV[[VUPZÅL_PISL

great choice for baby bibs, aprons, splat
mats, placemats, tablecloths, pencil cases,
accessory bags, book covers, lunch bags,
totes, handbags, pet bowl mats, shower curtains, rain coats, umbrellas, and a lot more.
There's no need to prewash laminated
cotton; the clear coating prevents shrinkage.
To clean, simply wipe the laminated side with
a damp cloth. If machine washing becomes
necessary, wash on a gentle or delicate cycle
and air dry.
To avoid creases and wrinkles, roll laminated
cotton onto a cardboard tube for shipping or
storing. Never use a hot iron directly on the
SHTPUH[L¶[OLJVH[PUN^PSSTLS[<ZLHWYLZZing cloth between the laminate and iron, or
iron only on the cotton backing. Don't press
laminated cottons with right sides together
without placing a pressing cloth between
layers.

Pins–and needles–will leave permanent
holes in the fabric. When cutting pattern
pieces from laminated cotton, use weights

or removable tape to hold the pattern in
place instead of pinning. If you must pin, pin
only within the seam allowances. Laminates
can shift while sewing; clothespins, paper
clips, binder clips and even hair clips can be
used to temporarily hold layers together. If
you have to re-sew a seam, try to follow the
exact stitching line to help hide holes, or sew
slightly outside the seam line, so that the
holes will be hidden in the seam allowance.
When sewing laminated cotton, sew slowly
and use a slightly longer stitch length (2.7–
3.0mm) to avoid unnecessarily perforating
