Talent Recruitment PROJECT College-2-Career intensive (C2Ci) Connecting Companies to Talent The College-2-Career Intensive (C2Ci) will serve as a day-long boot camp providing recent college graduates with soft-skills training, exposure to Birmingham companies looking for talent, and resources to help them successfully navigate the Birmingham job market. Participants will engage in workshops, interactive group and networking activities and professional development training. They will also receive hands-on instruction regarding hiring tips, interview skills, resume writing and social media branding. Sessions and workshops will be led by local human resources professionals, hiring managers and other practitioners, and will serve as preparation in pitching their talent to participating hiring companies. Talent Recruitment P R OJ E C T Overview Introduction: Birmingham’s Economic and Job Landscape It’s an exciting time to be in Birmingham. During a brief presentation by the BBA’s economic and workforce development team, learn the industries and jobs that are driving the Birmingham region. Session I - Skills for Success: What It Takes to Get the Job (Panel) Human resources professionals discuss the “sought after” skills that employers want in today’s talent. Graduates Learn: active listening, interview skills, understanding what’s expected of them during the interview and hiring process. Session II – Decision Making: Solving Problems with Innovation and Creativity (Speaker led discussion) Business leaders discuss the importance of using critical thinking and problem solving to contribute in today’s workplace – emphasis will be placed on using innovation and creativity to develop viable solutions to problems. Graduates Learn: how to recognize and analyze problems, discover workable solutions, organize and interpret pertinent data and creative approaches to problem solving. Session III- Avoiding the Blank Stare: Effective Communication and Teamwork (Group) Interactive learning session with team-building exercises that offer a basic introduction to effective communication and teamwork skills. Graduates Learn: strong interpersonal skills, active listening skills, communication processes, ability to clearly express ideas verbally and non-verbally, and diplomacy and collaboration. Lunch - Roadmap to Success Learn keys for career success from executive keynote speaker while also networking with invited Birmingham young professionals who have successfully made the transition from college to career in Birmingham. Graduates Learn: active listening, relationship building, goal setting, and planning. Session IV –CareerFit: Training Graduates for the Market A round robin session with career counselors and job coaches. Participants will engage in mock interviews, resume writing best practices, social media branding with LinkedIn - opportunity for professional headshots will be available, appropriate interview attire, and career counseling. Talent Acquisition Pitch Fair: Connecting Companies to Talent A day’s worth of training builds to the opportunity for recent grads to meet with prospective employers in an expo-like setting. Pitch your skills to employers and show them you have what it takes to succeed. Making the Connection Work: Networking Reception Relationships matter, make the most of this time to start a new one with a prospective employer.
