Dear Parents Your outlook on life, basically your attitude can determine your happiness and success in life. Far too often we tend to focus on the ‘things’ that get us down and this in turn perpetuates more negativity. What we need to remember is that attitude is a mind-set, how you view your world. Do you see the positive or do you focus on the negative? Do we focus on what we have or are we obsessed with what we want and possibly cannot have? Our perception of the events in our life, and how we regard these events can be attributed to our attitude. How can we change our attitude? - When dealing with a situation try and find the good in it. Focus on the good; do not dwell on the negative. Depending on the situation, you sometimes have to look hard to find the good but it is there! By doing this you start changing attitudes to a positive attitude rather than a negative attitude. Remember the saying, "you can't change other people, you can only change yourself." So if someone tells you that you have a poor attitude, don't try and convenience them otherwise, as you won't change their mind. When someone tells us this we have a tendency to take a defensive attitude, instead focus on how you can change". You will end up becoming very frustrated if you try and change other people. Remember, you can only change yourself and how you deal with that individual. They visited the Cape Town Science Centre where they learnt new concepts about Science. Our students were so excited and could not wait to arrive at the Centre. The Year 1’s were taught: How to build a house: They were given foam blocks and cement, they that to show responsibly and team work by building their very own home. Our five senses and how different we are then one another. Students were taught about their visual perception and what we use our senses for. Experiments: Students were shown many fun experiments; one was foam that developed from chemicals and sunlight liquid. They loved this. The children loved exploring the different exhibits, while learning new and interesting things. Once the day was over we had 60 very tired children that were all “Scienced out” but so excited to return. Turns out, we definitely have some budding writers in our class! The class began investigating by reading a story and answering questions about a teacher that turned into a rabbit. The students were captivated by this tale and were soon on their way to creating their own teacher creature tales. We then explored sequencing a story by making our own storyboards, and finally we felt ready to begin writing our own original stories. We had toad teachers to tiger teachers, zebra teachers to robot teachers! ‘I will return as soon as I turn the rest of the teachers into toads. But I warn you for now because I am working for the witch company! ‘– Lwandile Shabane, 7yrs old ‘One of the children caught her and took a spell book to turn her into a two headed human. “Oh no Miss Ham!’ – Giannu Gabriel-Ronchi, 7yrs old ‘Suddenly the teacher turned into a squirrel. On Wednesday, 18th March 2015, the U/11 cricket team played against the U/11 side of CBC. BIS was send in to bat first. Matthew Petersen and Mackenzie Gardner got off to a good start as they batted really well. Mackenzie lost his wicket in the 9th over. Matthew and Daniel Schlacher went all out with the bat, but it was Matthew who got really into in smashing 52 runs not out. After 15 overs BIS got 91/1. The target was set at 92 runs. BIS managed to bowl very well and did some very good fielding. CBC didn’t hold back and only required 15 runs from the last over. The pressure was on the young Kéno Theart as he bowled the last over.
