Fabric preparation: a) From the Smryna Cross and Algerian Eyelet borders, count out 20 fabric threads ( ¾”) from right and bottom sides of stitching. Remove 1 horizontal fabric thread at bottom, and one vertical fabric thread at this measurement. Next measure up 6 ½” from the horizontal withdrawn thread. Again withdraw 1 fabric thread. Finally, measure to the left, 6 ½” from the vertical withdrawn thread. Again withdraw 1 fabric thread. You should now have a 6 1/2” square outline. b) Place a small piece of complimentary backing fabric over Hardanger cut area, on the back of the stitched piece, and then cover with a piece of lightweight iron on interfacing 7” x 7”. Iron the interfacing in place (this will also give the piece some extra stability) making sure that the compliment fabric piece that is over the hardanger is still in place. c) Turn and cut away all the fabric and interfacing that extends past the withdrawn fabric threads. 2. Sewing: With the front stitched area of the design facing you (on point) fold the top point down over to the bottom point. You should now have a triangle shape with the right sides of fabric together. Pin together starting at the left side around point to the right. Begin sewing ½” from the left and around to 2.5” from the right point. Use a ¼” seam allowance. Turn right side out and finger press edges. Stuff with a small amount of fiberfill. REMOVE ONE FABRIC THREAD 3/4” 6.5” 3/4” 3/4” 3/4” REMOVE ONE FABRIC THREAD 6.5” 3.Casing: To complete pincushion, tuck in the raw edge on top left side to form a right angle with seam. Slip stitch the right side raw edges to within ½” from top. Tuck in raw edge to form a right angle with seam. Stitch a ½” casing line across the top. Thread white ribbon or ribbon of your choice through the casing, gather and snug gently together, so both ends meet and tie in a bow. “Pincushion Heart” ©Copyright 2003 Thea Dueck The Victoria Sampler Phone (250) 656-3566 Fax (250)656-0447 Email: [email protected] website: www.victoriasampler.com Thea Dueck KITS, Designs, Accessory Packs and TINY Accessory Packs from The Victoria Sampler WWW.VICTORIASAMPLER.COM [email protected]
