West Virginia FIRST LEGO League 2015 Summer Camps West Virginia FIRST LEGO League Summer Camps NASA’s IV&V Robotics Alliance Project in conjunction with the West Virginia FIRST LEGO League Program at Fairmont State University has an exciting opportunity for your student to attend one of four robotics camps that will be held across our beautiful state. Each camp has been created with a NASA-centric curriculum that will ensure your student has fun while learning how to build and program a LEGO EV3 robot, use sensors, and complete autonomous missions. Your student will also work on core values and teambuilding skills which align with the FIRST ethos of “Gracious Professionalism”. Additionally, your student will engage with guest speakers and see demonstrations from high school level robotic teams. Where and when are the camps? The camps are designed to cover as much of WV as possible to ensure students in multiple regions have a chance to attend. 1. MARS Training Facility, Morgantown: June 15-18 2. WVSU’s NASA SEMAA Lab, Beckley: June 22-25 3. Shepherd University, Shepherdstown: June 29-July 2 4. Fairmont State University, Fairmont: July 6-9* The first 3 weeks are run as Day Camps from 9am to 5 pm. Week 4 is hosted and sponsored by Fairmont State University and is the only residential program*. It starts Monday at 9 am and runs through Thursday at 5 pm. Will I have to stay with my student? No. Your student will participate in these activities with employees from the NASA’s IV&V Educator Resource Center and FIRST Robotics AmeriCorps VISTA program. All staff members have passed Youth Protection training and NASA background checks. We cannot wait to engage your students in robotics! The Bharti Family N A SA I V & V Ro b o t i cs A l l ia n ce P r o je ct How much will the summer camp cost? There is no “fee for service” for these camps, but we do not have the funds to cover hospitality. The day camps will cost $50/student while the residential camp will cost $100/student. These funds are only used to cover meals and snacks. If this fee represents a hardship for your family, please complete the scholarship application. What age group are the camps accepting? Although your student does not need to have been previously involved with FIRST LEGO League (FLL) to participate in one of the four summer camps available, we are aligning age groups with the FLL age range, which is 9-14. The first three summer camps will be accepting students 9-14 years of age. *The residential camp will only be accepting students 12-14 years of age simply because the curriculum involved is most appropriate for this particular age range. Registration To register for one of the camps or for more information on robotics programs in WV, please visit our website at www.WVRoboticsAlliance.org. We accept payment by check or credit card. Thank You to our Sponsors and Hosts These camps would NOT be possible without the support of the NASA IV&V Robotics Alliance Project and generous donations from the Bharti and Von Alt Families, College of Science and Technology at FSU, MARS FRC team #2614, and the Southern WV Robotics Club. Thank you also to our partners for hosting these camps at West Virginia State University’s SEMAA Lab and Shepherd University. The Von Alt Family
