SABRINA BROMAC
IS ONE IN A MILLION
Sabrina Bromac
Smudge Bromac
Bromac Lodge broodmare Sabrina Bromac is one in a million for the Prebbleton-based
breeding facility.
The unraced Live Or Die-Soho mare has now left winners in excess of nearly $A1.1 million
across the Tasman.
Her first six foals had won a combined $A1,067,426 in stakes leading into Saturday night's
$A25,390 Echua Pacing Cup in Victoria.
Then, her headline performer, Smudge Bromac, starred again, winning for the 32nd time.
Smudge Bromac, the 9YO entire by Falcon Seelster from "Sabrina", came off a 20m handicap
to justify his $3.70 win favouritism in the Moama Bowling Club-sponsored Echuca Pacing Cup
(Saturday, March 21).
The David Aiken-trained Smudge Bromac moved up parked with a lap to run for driver
Nathan Jack and proved too strong for longshot Smot, and Road To Road, and clocked
another track record in the country cup, rating 1:58.6 rate for the 2530m.
This was well inside the long-standing previous best by Living Angel, a 2:00.3 winning mile rate
over the stand start trip, in 2002, on the tight 804.8m circuit.
Three months ago Smudge Bromac also set a track record when taking out the $A25,505
Yarra Valley Pacing Cup in a 1:57.1 rate over the 2650m from a stand.

In between country cup wins, he had been the runner up to Bit Of A Legend in The Good
Form Pure Steel at Melton in late January and finished a creditable fifth in Arden Rooney's
Grand Circuit win in the $A400,000 Del-Re National Hunter Cup, also at Melton.
Smudge Bromac, who has a career best wining mile rate of 1:53.2, took his earnings past
$A370,000 at Echuca.
Sabrina Bromac's other winners are:
* Slick Bromac (9g Falcon Seelster, 1:57.3, 33 wins & $256,107).
* Smudge Bromac (8h Falcon Seelster, 1:53.2, 28 wins & $307,017).
* Seshny Bromac (7m McArdle, 1:53.9, 12 wins & $124,554).
* Ardle McArdle (6g McArdle, 1:54.5, 19 wins & $193,676).
* Shakti Bromac (4g Falcon Seelster, 1:55.6, 10 wins & $60,632).
* Tuscan Breeze (3f Art Major, 1:58.4, 9 wins & $67,966).
Sabrina Bromac has subsequently left an unraced 3YO gelding by Art Official (p3, 1:47, a
yearling colt by Art Official, a filly by Shadow Play (1:47.8) last year and was bred with Mach
Three in December.
Sabrina Bromac continues to marvel at stud despite being written off as a racing
proposition.
Bromac Lodge proprietor Bob McArdle entered a 50 percent deal with the late Murray Gray
to try Sabrina Bromac as a potential racing proposition.
However, she was returned after Mr Gray concluded she was too small to breed from and
didn't have enough ability.
Unperturbed, Bob McArdle gave "Sabrina" her chance at stud and she hasn't looked back.
She was worth a shot in the breeding barn as her fourth dam Royal Belmer won 12 including
the 1972 Kaikoura Cup and 1973 NZ Standardbred Breeders Stakes for the late Jack
Smolenski.
Royal Belmer left five individual winners including the 1978 New Zealand Derby winner
Sovereign and good mare Royal Decision (10 wins), the latter becoming the grand-dam of
fast USA winner Playing With Fire (1:50.6).
The smart 1970s racemare also became the grand-dam of another Jack Smolenski-trained
star in OK Royal (14 NZ wins including the 1998 NZ Messenger 4YO Championship; 18 USA
wins, 1:53.6).
She also features as the grand dam of 1:51.6 winning USA miler Rondel Franco (Falcon
Seelster-Reigning Franco), who after winning twice early in her career in NZ, went on to win
35 times in North America, earning $684,003.

Rondel Franco now features as the dam of last season's Auckland Cup placegetter
Saveapatrol (1:56.9 mile rate, 2600m, 10 wins from just 16 starts).
TANISA BROMAC ALSO FEATURES
Fellow Bromac Lodge broodmare Tanisa Bromac was also to the fore last weekend, with
Black Mr Mach winning at Gloucester Park, Perth, and half-brother Tijuana Bromac, running
fourth in the C4-0C pace at Addington.
Black Mr Mach, a 4YO Mach Three gelding from Tanisa Bromac, led throughout the C2+
pace at Gloucester Park on Friday night, winning in a 1:57.2 rate (2130m) for the Greg Bond
stable.
The $1.60 win favourite was recording his ninth win from 41 starts.
TIAGO BROMAC RETURNS TO FORM
Meanwhile, at Tabcorp Park, Melton, on Friday night, March 20, Tiago Bromac (5g McArdleTactile Franco) returned to winning form, scoring in a 1:57.1 rate.
He is now the winner of three from 10 starts this term, and winner of 12 from 38 lifetime.
Tiago Bromac has a fastest winning mile rate of 1:54.8, set when winning a Swan Hill Mile last
October.
