Carbapenemase June 2015 programme and registration form.indd

Carbapenemase-producing
gram-negative Microorganisms.
Where are we now?
Challenges in prevention, diagnosis,
detection and therapy.
Thursday 4 June 2015
Royal College of Physicians, London
CPD ACCREDITED
Welcome
Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negatives have become a major concern worldwide.
Many factors, including the ease of international travel for medical tourism and
migration and the importation of food products, have been responsible for introducing
these microorganisms to several countries far beyond their country of origin.
These organisms cause serious infections in hospitalised patients and are associated
with increased mortality. Carbapenemase-producing Gram-negatives exhibit extensive
drug-resistant phenotypes, complicate therapy and limit treatment options. Strict
infection control measures, including active surveillance for timely detection of
colonised patients, are some of the only effective ways of preventing the introduction
and transmission of these bacteria in healthcare settings.
This meeting will be of interest to microbiologists, infectious disease physicians,
pharmacists, scientists, infection control specialists, colleagues in industry and
professionals allied to the field of infection and antimicrobial chemotherapy.
This meeting has generated considerable interest, even prior to the programme being
fully confirmed; early booking is therefore highly recommended.
