Theme/Topic
After each class, you’ll really need to practice
the following at home and bring to class next
week:
19-May Introduction to the course.
How to make flower paste.
Making rose-bud formers.
Making flower paste.
Rose-bud formers - make at least twelve (more
would be better) a few days before class and store
somewhere warm to ensure they’re completely dry otherwise they’ll be difficult to work with.
2-Jun
Balling technique. Veining.
Roses - applying the first petal to a rose-bud
former & applying the 1st row of petals
Using the twelve rose-bud formers you made last
week, apply a first petal to all.
Then complete nine to the 1st row stage.
9-Jun
Roses - 2nd & 3rd layers of petals, shading
with powder colour to achieve a natural effect.
Applying a calyx
Take three of your rose buds to the 2nd row stage
and another three to the final 3rd row stage. Apply a
calyx to all of your buds, use powder colours to give
a realistic effect.
16-Jun Practice the “frilling” technique and use it
when making sweet peas.
Apply colour for a realistic effect.
Make at least twelve finished and shaded sweet
peas - and some buds, all with a calyx in dark green.
23-Jun Learn the “Mexican hat” technique -which we
can use for a large range of flowers - today
we’ll make jasmine flowers and buds.
Use powder colours
Six open jasmine flowers and six buds, shaded each with a calyx
30-Jun Make leaves with a natural veining effect,
learn how to attach wires to them and apply
powder colours for a realistic look.
We’ll also look at using alcohol and powder
colours to create a variegated effect on Ivy
leaves.
Making leaves and attaching wires - Rose leaves,
using cutters and veiner in three different sizes. Also
variegated Ivy leaves in different sizes and one other
type of leaf - don’t forget they need to be completely
dry, otherwise they’ll be difficult to work with.
7-Jul
Creating compound leaves.
Wiring a spray of flowers together
Wire your spray together to include:
Roses - fully-open, half-open & rose buds.
Jasmine - open & buds
Sweet peas - open & buds
Leaves - Rose, Ivy and one other.
14-Jul Finish your spray of flowers.
Top tip - don’t watch You-Tube videos until at least lesson 5 :-)
Please note - You will need to practice what you’ve learnt in class at home (at least two hours per week), otherwise
it’s doubtful that you’ll reach the required standard by the end of the course.
