Goal to raise $10,000 May 1-31, 2015
(PASADENA , CA ) – The California Latino Leadership Institute , (CLLI), Veteran Leadership
Academy Team Ten Fellows, (501 c 3 FEIN # 47-1243514), announced the launch of “ HONOR,
COURAGE & SACRIFICE GOFUNDME ” today, a social media fundraising campaign being held
between May 1 st-31st, 2015 with a goal of raising $10,000 . Funds donated will directly benefit
the El Soldado Monument located in Sacramento,
California, home to the largest number of veterans in the Nation1.9 million, of whom 296,000 are
Latino /Latina veterans. Latino Veterans comprise the largest veteran ethnic group in the state.
Located across the street from the State Capitol, El Soldado is the ONLY monument honoring Latino
veterans in the nation on State Capitol grounds.
CLLI is working with the California Department of Veterans Affairs, (CalVet) and the Mexican
American Veterans Memorial Committee, (MAVMC), the El Soldado Monument Beautification
Project will restore and beautify the monument originally established in 1954, that has been
vandalized and currently in disrepair. The enhancements of the newly refurbished El Soldado
Monument project will include an expanded green space and highlight all 61 national Latino Medal
of Honor recipients
“The El Soldado Monument is a symbol of honor and pride for the many sacrifices and
contributions made by Latino/Latina veterans to this nation’s rich history of military service. The
Veteran Leadership Academy Fellows are to be acknowledge for their creative efforts in supporting
such a worthwhile project for California and the nation”, stated Maria Hernandez, Chairman, CLLI.
