How to enter:
Bring in your entries with the entry form(s) to the Fairgrounds on Monday, Aug. 11 or Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Entries will be taken in the South Expo Building. If you want to enter early and reduce time spent in line on entry days, you have the following
2 options:
1. a) Mail or deliver ONLY your entry form(s) to the Premium Office, 5610 Glenwood, Boise ID 83714 by August 7.
b) Then bring your entries to the Fairgrounds on Aug. 11 or Aug. 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
OR 2. a) Enter online by Aug. 7 at www.idahofair.com. Follow the link to Competitive Exhibits. A $2 fee will apply. This fee is per
exhibitor, regardless of number of entries or in how many departments you enter.
b) Then bring your entries to the Fairgrounds on Aug. 11 or Aug. 12 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

DEPARTMENT RULES: Exhibitors should read the
General Rules & Regulations in the front of this book.
Department Rules supersede General Rules. All exhibits will
be under the control and direction of the Superintendent.
Every precaution will be taken to insure the safety of the
exhibits, but the exhibitor assumes all responsibility in case
of loss or theft and in no case will the management of the
Western Idaho Fair or the Superintendent be responsible for
loss or damage to same.
YOUTH: Ages 17 and younger must enter in
Department 19. Youth wishing to compete with adults are
welcome to enter Department 17 only with the
superintendent’s approval.
BEGINNERS: Exhibitors with one year or less
experience.
SENIORS: Exhibitors 65 years and older may enter
senior division classes. To be eligible for the Eldest Senior
Award, place your birth date on entry form for
consideration.
Entries must be made on forms supplied by the
Western Idaho Fair. Multiple forms may be used, but each
exhibitor needs only one exhibitor number for all entries
in all departments. Entry forms must be presented with
items at time of entry, unless pre-entered.
Each exhibitor may enter only one article in each
class (so one is not in competition with oneself). All items
must be the handwork of the exhibitor, clean and completed
within the last 12 months. Articles exhibited at the Western
Idaho Fair in previous years will not be eligible for
competition. The Superintendent shall transfer to the correct
class any exhibit which is not a true representation of the
class in which it is entered.
Exhibitors wishing to sell items may notify the
Superintendent. Prices of items cannot appear on the item to
be sold. In case of a sale, the Superintendent or the
management of the Western Idaho Fair will not be
responsible for the collection of money or delivery of
exhibit.
PERTAINING TO ALL CLASSES: Enter no
multiple units or sets, except where indicated. No glue can
be used for construction purposes except for Art Quilts.
Exhibit accessories must be tied or sewn to project. Glue for
stiffening is allowed. Heat-set embellishments and hemming
tape are acceptable.
ALL PICTURES AND FRAMED ITEMS must be
ready for hanging with a wire attached to screw eyes (no
sawtooth hangers), and may be under glass.

2. JUDGING: Judge’s score cards have assigned values for
Appearance/Presentation, Design, Technical Difficulty,
Craftsmanship and Creativity. The department is closed
during judging Wednesday, Aug. 13, 8:00 a.m. Judges will
award premiums only when articles are deemed worthy of
merit. If no competition exists, judges may award a second,
third or no premium. Judges may divide classes at their
discretion. Premiums will be awarded only on classes listed.
Judges decisions are final.

3. PREMIUM PAY-OUT: Awards will be available at the
Premium Office. Copy of Exhibitor Entry Form should be
presented for premium pay-out. Cash premiums will be paid
to those entitled to awards on Aug. 19 through Aug. 24 from
12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. and on Exhibit Release day,
Monday, Aug. 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Starting Aug.
26 through Sept. 4, awards will be given out from 9:00 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. daily. The Office will be closed for Labor Day
weekend. Awards not claimed by Sept. 4, 2014 will be
considered a donation and will revert back to the Western
Idaho Fair general fund.
4. RELEASE: Monday, Aug. 25 – 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. IN
NO CASE MAY EXHIBITS BE REMOVED BEFORE
10:00 a.m. MONDAY, AUG. 25. Exhibits which are not
claimed within one week after the close of the fair will be
considered to have been abandoned and will be disposed of
as the Manager of the Fair sees fit. Exhibitors must present
claim checks corresponding with entry tags when claiming
exhibits.
Exhibits must not be removed without the
Superintendent or assistants being present to check out
entries.
SPECIAL AWARDS
Go Green Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a $5 premium and rosette for the
exhibit that displays the best use of recycled materials in any division. If
you wish to compete for this award, please note the use of the recycled
materials on your entry form. The Amalgamated Sugar Company LLC
will award $25 to the winner.
Sweetest Entry Contest
Take a look at the Home Arts Department entries and vote for the one
you believe to be the “sweetest”. This is a people’s choice award. The
entry with the most votes wins a $25 cash award from Amalgamated
Sugar, a gift basket full of wonderful Idaho products including a 10 lb.
bag of sugar, and a $5 WIF premium. Sponsored by The Amalgamated
Sugar Company LLC.
SPONSORED AWARDS
The Boise Basin Quilters, Inc. will present five $30 cash awards and
special honorary rosettes for the following categories: Best Visual
Impact, Best Traditional, Best Use of Color, Best Use of Scraps, and
Best Innovative Design. These awards are open to all quilted entries in
any division. Winning projects will be chosen by the Boise Basin
Quilters.
Award of Excellence
The Western Idaho Fair will award a certificate and rosette to the
exhibit that shows innovative techniques, creativity and/or superb
workmanship. Kitchen Craft will award $20 to the winner of the Award
of Excellence.
Fair Theme Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a plaque for the exhibit that best
portrays this year’s Fair Theme, “Barnyard Magic”. Kitchen Craft will
award $20 to the winner of the Fair Theme Award.
A Stitch In Time Award – The Schuster Family will award a $50 cash
prize and rosette for two quilts displaying loving care in the making. One
quilt from the senior division and one quilt from the regular quilt division
will be honored in memory of the family’s loving grandmothers.
The Western Idaho Chapter of Embroiderer’s Guild of America will
present three $25 cash awards for excellence of technique. These awards
are open to all entries in Divisions 7 – 9 and 22 – 24. Winning projects
will be chosen by the Western Idaho Chapter of Embroiderer’s Guild of
America.

Home Arts Department.
Best of Division Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a $5 cash award and rosette to the
Best of Division in each division where items are deemed worthy of
merit. Divisions 1 – 32 or unless otherwise listed.
Home Arts Superintendent Award
Kitchen Craft will present a $10 cash award to five Blue Ribbon
recipients. This award is open to all first place winners within the
department. Good luck in the Blue Ribbon Drawing.
The American Needlepoint Guild will present the following: First
Place – a Needlework Related Accessory, $25 cash award, and Certificate
of Merit; Second Place – a Needlework Related Accessory, $15 cash
award, and a Certificate of Merit; Third Place – a Needlework Related
Accessory, and a Certificate of Merit. These awards will be chosen and
presented by American Needlepoint Guild Representatives for Divisions
9 & 24.
Home Arts Department Creative Yarn Work Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a Certificate of Merit and $5.00
premium for yarn entries in each of the following categories: Best Use of
Color, Best Use of Texture, and Best Design. All crochet, knit, or woven
yarn entries are eligible for this award.
Knit-Wits yarn shop in Boise will award two $25 gift certificates. One
award will be given for the best knitted lace, and one award will be given
for the best crocheted lace.
Home Arts Department Quilting Award
The Western Idaho Fair will present a $25.00 cash award, plaque and
quilt batt to the “Best of Show” quilt selected from the six Best of
Division award winners in divisions 10 and 25. In addition, the Western
Idaho Fair will award quilt batts to the five remaining “Best of Division”
winners.
Dorr Mill Store (dorrmillstore.com) will award a $25 gift certificate for
the “Best of Show” hooked, latch hooked or punched item selected from
the General and Senior division winners in divisions 13 and 28.
Puffy Mondaes sustainable arts yarn shop in Nampa will
award a gift card in the following categories in classes:
Home Arts Quilted Wall Hanging Award
Six blue ribbon recipients in Divisions 11 & 26 will be awarded a small
size batt selected by the Department Superintendent. This project must
be done by an individual and all Home Arts restrictions apply.













Eldest Senior Citizen Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a $5 premium and rosette to the
“Eldest Senior Citizen” entered in Divisions 17 – 31. (If you wish to
compete for this award, be sure to provide your birth date on the entry

Grand Sweepstakes Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a Grand Sweepstakes Plaque and
Rosette to the person who accumulates the most points from all classes
combined. To be eligible, you must enter at least one item in a
minimum of five different divisions. Award will be based on total
points earned: (First= 4 points, Second=2 points, Third=1 point). The
number of points in each class will be multiplied by the number of entries
in that class. All blue ribbon entries awarded the “Best of Division” will
be awarded ten additional points to be added to the final accumulated
score toward Grand Sweepstakes. Kitchen Craft will award $50 to the
winner of the Grand Sweepstakes Award.
Needle Arts Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a Sweepstakes Plaque to the
exhibitor with the most accumulated points in Divisions 2 – 9 and 13 – 16
and Divisions 17 – 24 and 28 – 31. Award will be based on total points
earned: First=4 points, Second=2 points, Third=1 point). The number of
points in each class will be multiplied by the number of entries in that
class. Kitchen Craft will award $20 to the winner of the Needle Arts
Award.
Clothing and Textiles Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a Sweepstakes Plaque to the
exhibitor with the most points in Divisions 10 – 12, 15 and 16, and
Divisions 25 – 27, 30 and 31. Award will be based on total points
earned: (First=4 points, Second=2 points, Third=1 point). The number
of points in each class will be multiplied by the number of entries in that
class. Must be quilted or home sewn. Kitchen Craft will award $20 to
the winner of the Clothing and Textiles Award.
Senior Grand Sweepstakes Award
The Western Idaho Fair will award a Sweepstakes plaque to the
exhibitor in the Senior Divisions 17 – 31 who accumulates the most
points. Award will be based on total points earned: (First=4 points,
Second=2 point, Third=1 Point). The number of points in each class will
be multiplied by the number of entries in that class. Kitchen Craft will
award $20 to the winner of the Senior Grand Sweepstakes Award.

SIZE: List measurements with description on entry form. Items
with 215” perimeters or less (small projects, baby/lap size quilts,
misc. items) enter in first section classes 122-127. Medium and
large items enter in second section classes 128-151. In classes
divided by size, medium items with 216”-300” perimeters (lap
size approximately 54”x72” and youth size approximately
60”x90”) will be judged together while items over 300”
perimeters (approximately 80”x90” and larger) will be judged
together. In classes not split along these lines, judges may divide
the class according to their discretion.

DIVISION RULES: All quilts MUST have a 6” sleeve stitched
at the top (on the back) of the entry to accommodate a cross pole
for hanging although the sleeve for a baby or crib size quilt may
be narrower (3”-6” width). Mini quilts, doll quilts, small
household accessories, and various miscellaneous items such as
clothing and purses do not need sleeves. To make the sleeve:
Use a strip of fabric the full width of the quilt and 14” wide; fold
the strip in half the full length; sew it together with a ½” seam
(the result is a long tube/sleeve); turn it inside out which places
the seam inside the tube/sleeve; iron the tube/sleeve with the
