CAMP JEWELL
YMCA
Caring • Honesty • Respect • Responsibility
FOR OVER 110 YEARS,
Camp Jewell YMCA has been helping young people
develop life skills that prepare them for future
success. We welcome you to our outdoor classroom,
where learning is by experience and campers thrive
in a caring, supportive community. Lessons learned
here last well beyond the final campfire— they
help shape young lives and inspire new goals and
dreams. Campers become part of a dynamic camp
community that develops confidence, leadership,
and friendships.
A SUMMER TO
REMEMBER!
SUMMER
DAY CAMP 2015
Whether your child is going to day camp for the
first time, or they have attended camp before,
our emphasis on the Y’s four core values of
Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
are seen throughout all of our programs.
The YMCA focuses on both building and
strengthening communities.
CAMP JEWELL YMCA
A branch of YMCA of Greater Hartford
At Camp Jewell, this is embodied through a focus on:
• Youth Development: Nurturing the potential of
every child and teen
• Healthy Living: Promoting health and well-being
through physical activity and nutrition
• Social Responsibility: Giving back to the
community, respect for one another, and
preserving the environment
Over 150 well-trained staff ensures that the needs
of each camper are met; we pride ourselves on the
diversity and professionalism of our staff, which
comes from colleges in the United States and
throughout the world. Many of our staff came
through our own Leadership Development Programs
and understand the value that a Camp Jewell
experience provides to each and every camper.
Come join us and discover what makes Camp Jewell
YMCA such an amazing experience, and remember
at Camp Jewell, children don’t just come and go,
they come and GROW!!

A WORLD-CLASS DAY CAMP
coupled with our CARING,
EXPERIENCED COUNSELORS
can only mean one thing…
YOUR CHILD is going
to have a blast making
LIFELONG FRIENDS!
WE BUILD FRIENDSHIPS
Over 20,000 guests come to Camp Jewell YMCA
from around the world each year to enjoy all
that camp has to offer. Since we’re so close
to your neighborhood, you could practically
walk here!
At Camp Jewell YMCA, we take pride in
our beautiful 540 acres, private lake, and
facilities. However, our greatest strength
is in providing a positive atmosphere
where your child can develop new and
meaningful relationships among fellow
campers and counselors. Our program is
designed for optimal interaction between
campers through our engaging,
team-oriented activities.
OUR WORLD-CLASS STAFF
More than 30 of our 150 counselors are
from Europe, Asia, Australia, and South
America. Our staff is committed to our
values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and
Responsibility. All of our staff members
attend at least 60 hours of training
before summer begins, and are certified
in First Aid and CPR. All staff members
undergo a rigorous application process,
criminal background check, and drug test
prior to their hire.
YOU DON’T EVEN NEED TO PACK LUNCH
At Camp Jewell YMCA we want to make it as easy
as possible to accommodate your needs as a
parent. To accomplish this, all campers enjoy
lunch every day, and it is included in the day
camp fee.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!
Camp Jewell YMCA also offers a variety
of overnight camps during the summer.
Consider enrolling your child in a session
of Overnight Camp!
While we pride ourselves on our quality
summer camp program, Camp Jewell is also a
full-service, year-round, outdoor center for
group and family retreats, team building and
outdoor education programs.
For over 22 years, our Sunrise Mountain
Children’s Center has provided the local
community with a quality after-school
enrichment program, serving K-6th graders
at Camp Jewell. We have the ability to offer
a wide range of activities that are not found
in traditional after-school programs like
horseback riding, canoeing, hiking, archery,
as well as, indoor and outdoor climbing.
We believe camp is for the entire family
and so we offer a variety of family camps
throughout the year! As an all-inclusive
program, there’s no need to worry about
scheduling activities or preparing meals!
Finally, we also offer a comprehensive
horseback riding lesson program in
the spring and fall for local community
residents. Lessons are open and cater to
adults and children ages 5 and up. Riders of
all skills and abilities are welcome.
For more information on these or any
Camp Jewell YMCA Program, please
contact the camp office.
We also offer both pre-camp and
post-camp care. Pre-camp begins as
early as 7:30am and includes breakfast.
Post-camp runs from the end of the
camp day to 5:30pm and includes fun
activities and a snack. Plus, every
Thursday campers have the opportunity
to stay overnight at camp to experience
what it’s like to be an overnight camper!
