1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each navy
C square.
22751 N: Flag Print
• Cut (3) 2¾" x WOF strips; recut into (32) 2¾" E squares
• Cut (2) 3⅛" x WOF strips; recut into (16) 3⅛" squares,
then cut in half diagonally to make 32 J triangles
2. Place a marked C square right sides together on one end
of a white B rectangle. Stitch on the marked line. Trim
seam allowance to ¼". Press the navy triangle to the
right side. Repeat with a second C square on the
remaining end of the B rectangle to complete (1) B unit.
Repeat to make (16) B units total. Repeat with the
remaining marked C squares and blue D rectangles
to make (16 D) units.

• Cut (4) 2¾" x WOF strips; recut into (32) 2¾" x 5" D

square to make (8) center rows. Press seams toward the
A squares.
4. Stitch a flag E square to each end of the D units to make
(16) top/bottom rows. Press seams toward the E squares.

5. Sew a center row between (2) top/bottom rows to
complete (1) 9½" x 9½" navy star block. Press seams
toward the center row. Repeat to make (8) blocks total.
5. Sew an H unit to opposite sides of each F unit to make
(8) center rows. Press seams toward the H units.
6. Stitch a JK unit to each end of the D units to make (16)
top/bottom rows. Press seams toward the D units.
7. Sew a center row between (2) top/bottom rows to
complete (1) 9½" x 9½" red star block. Press seams
toward the top/bottom rows. Repeat to make (8) blocks
total.

Red Star Blocks
1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of each red G
square and white I square.

2. Use marked G squares and blue D rectangles to make
(16) D units referring to step 2 for navy star blocks.
Repeat with the marked I squares and red H rectangles
to make (16) H units.

Quilt Assembly:
Note: Refer to the exploded quilt diagram on page 4
throughout the following steps.
1. Join (2) red star blocks and (2) navy star blocks to make
a row. Press seams toward the navy Star blocks. Repeat
to make (4) rows total.

3. Place a marked G square right sides together on
opposite corners of a stripe F square. Stitch on the
marked lines. Trim seam allowances to ¼". Press the
red corners to the right side. Repeat on the remaining
corners of the F square to complete (1) F unit. Repeat to
make (8) F units total.
2. Join the rows to complete the 36½" x 36½" quilt center,
turning every other row end for end. Press seams in one
direction.
3. Sew the 1½" x 36½" navy texture strips to opposite
sides and the 1½" x 38½" strips to the top and bottom.
Press seams toward the strips.
4. Sew the 5" ribbon/star border strips short ends together
to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into
(2) 38½" strips and (2) 47½" strips. Sew the 38½" strips
to opposite sides and the 47½" strips to the top and
bottom to complete the quilt top. Press seams toward the
strips.

4. Stitch a flag J triangle to a white K triangle on the long
diagonal edges to make a JK unit. Press seam toward the
J triangle. Repeat to make (32) JK units total.
5. Remove the selvedge edges from the backing pieces.
Join the pieces on the long edges with a ½" seam
allowance. Press seam open. Trim the side edges to
make a 55" x 55" backing piece.

9½" red star blocks.
3. Join the navy star and red star sections to complete the
14" x 45½" runner center. Press seams to one side.
4. Sew the 1¼" navy texture strips short ends together to
make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into (2)
45½" strips and (2) 15½" strips. Sew the 45½" strips to
the long sides and the 15½" strips to the short ends of
the runner center. Press seams toward the strips.
5. Sew the 2½" ribbon/star print strips short ends together
to make a long strip. Press seams to one side. Cut into
(2) 47" strips and (2) 19½" strips. Sew the 47" strips to
the long sides and the 19½" strips to the short ends to
complete the runner top. Press seams toward the strips.

Runner Assembly
Note: Refer to the exploded runner diagram (below, right)
throughout the following steps.
6. Remove the selvedge edges from the backing pieces.
Join the pieces on the 27" edges with a ½" seam allowance. Press seam open. Trim the ends to make a 27" x
59" backing piece.
1. Sew a JK unit to each end of the remaining H units to
make (6) pieced strips. Press seams toward the JK units.
Sew a pieced strip to opposite sides of each navy Star
block to make (3) 9½" x 14" navy star sections. Press
seams toward the navy star blocks.
7. Layer, quilt, and bind using your favorite methods and
the navy texture binding strips to complete the runner.

units to make (4) pieced strips. Press seams toward the
