SCHOOL DISTRICT AND COMMUNITY
Fort Bend Independent School District is located in the northeast part of Fort Bend County, immediately
southwest of Houston and Harris County. The Fort Bend Independent School District encompasses the
incorporated cities of Missouri City, Sugar Land, Arcola, Meadows, and a small portion of Houston. It covers
174 square miles. Within the district are 45 elementary schools, 14 middle schools, 11 senior high schools,
one alternative high school, two Centers for Learning and a Technical Education Center.

ACCREDIATION: Texas Education Agency and Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
COLLEGE ATTENDANCE: Each year approximately 75% of Willowridge graduates attend college, 60%
attend 4 year colleges/universities, 10% attend 2 year colleges and 5% attend technical schools.
CURRICULUM: Strong academic programs are offered at Willowridge High School to support, enhance,
and elevate achievement for all students.

Strong academic program with more than 200 possible course selections including electives in art,
speech, drama, journalism, music, foreign languages, math, English, science, and social studies.
UIL sponsored athletic programs for young men and women are offered in football, basketball,
tennis, track, soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball.
Student Services: The following student services are available to assist students: counselors, nurse,
diagnostician, social worker, school psychologist, speech pathologist.
Clubs and Organizations: Academic Decathlon, Drama, English Honor Society, National Science
Honor Society, French Club, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Theater Arts, UIL
Academics, PALS, Student Council, Student Leadership Program, Youth in Philanthropy Program.
Extracurricular Awards: 2010 College Readiness Award, Designated a “No Place for Hate” campus
by the Anti-Defamation League, Class of 2012 received $500,000 in scholarships.
Instruction is available for special needs through Special Education, ESL Instruction, and Gifted
and Talented classes.
SCHOOL HIGHLIGHTS:

The Willowridge High School Band has participated in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade,
Orange Bowl Parade, the Rose Bowl Parade, the 2004 Super Bowl pre-game show, the Universal
Studios movie “Friday Night Lights” and the Pan-Pacific Festival Parade in Hawaii. They have
won numerous awards at the local, state and national levels.

The Willowridge Marine Corp JROTC program is one of the premier JROTC programs in the state
of Texas. With an enrollment of approximately 180 students annually, it has a history of being a
Naval Honor School and producing productive, model citizens. The program offers a myriad of
opportunities for enrolled cadets and here they begin to find their areas of strength and weakness
and go on to build upon that foundation. JROTC is creating tomorrow’s leaders today.

Enchanted Wings Dance Team received the 2011 Grand Champion Award at the Showtime
International Dance Contest.

Students may submit a waiver request in the areas of Foreign Language, Algebra II, Chemistry, and/ or Fine Arts if it is determined that they will not
be able to meet the requirement.
Students who take an additional year of Foreign Language and achieve 4 advanced measures will receive Distinguished Achievement Program.
Advanced measures come from achieving a 3 or higher on an AP test, recognition in the National Merit competition, completion of college work
with a B, or by completing an original research project.
