June 30 to July 3, 2015
You are invited…to West Denmark Family
Camp 2015. This year’s camp will be our 38th.
It begins the afternoon of Tuesday, June 30 and
continues through Friday, July 3. In the tradition
of Danish folk schools, you will have the chance to
listen to and interact with engaging speakers, folk
dance, sing, participate in skits, make crafts, share
talents, eat good food, meet new friends and visit
old friends over coffee, and relax in the beautiful,
peaceful setting of the West Denmark Lutheran
Church. For us, “family” describes the community
we create. The participation of all generations,
from infants to elders, of varying backgrounds and
with diverse insights, enriches the experience. All
are welcome to join us as we work together, play
together, and learn from each other.
We are happy to have Lisa Jensen and Harry and
Christine Johansen as our song leaders, Gwen Sarya
as our children’s dance leader, and Mark Nussle as
our evening dance leader.
Schedule for Tuesday, June 30:
2:00 Log Rolling and possibly kayaking. Have fun
playing in the water of Little Butternut Lake or sit on
the Johnsons’ shoreline (near the boat-landing on Co.
Rd. N.) and watch others play in the water! Bring old
tennis shoes for log rolling and lawn chairs for
watching and relaxing.
5:00 Potluck Supper Everyone is invited—under the
canopy at the back of the Hall. Hamburgers, brats, and
beverages will be provided; please bring a dish to
share, as well as lawn chairs or a blanket.
Following the potluck we will move inside for
singing, craft orientation, and our evening’s
entertainment.
7:00 (or so) Brian Wicklund will be performing his
“World Tour of Fiddling” show. He’ll begin his tour
in Sweden and continue with Scottish and Irish
music before crossing the pond to North America to
explore French Canadian, Cajun, Appalachian, blues,
bluegrass, and swing.
Brian, who lives in Marine on St. Croix, has been an
integral part of the national acoustic music scene for
decades playing with many international touring
bluegrass and folk groups. He has literally written the
book on fiddling with his best-selling American Fiddle
Method published by Mel Bay. He hosts the wildly
popular Fiddle Pal Camps in Minnnesota, Wisconsin,
and Massachusetts and fronts the Minnesota-based
Barley Jacks who tour the Midwest.

maximum seating capacity, in which case we cannot guarantee meals

10:45: Rod Olson, MD, has a passion for preserving
water quality in lakes and rivers. He believes “the water
will run clear someday. The soil on our fields will become
healthy. A thousand rain gardens and detention ponds will
protect our rivers and lakes. And our grandchildren will be
grateful.” Rod has worked as a family doctor and emergency
physician in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, for 35 years.
4:00: Gerry Lisi – Affordable Care Act – Gerry has a keen
interest in the changes to health care access that have come
with the contentious implementation of the Affordable Care
Act, particularly as Emergency Departments have been the
primary entry to health care for those without insurance.
He is recently retired from the Emergency Department
at Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake where he was
Director of Emergency and Ambulance Services for 30
years.

4:00: Chad Lewis - For more than 20 years Chad Lewis
has traveled the back roads of the world in search of the
strange and bizarre. He has been featured on the Discovery
Channel’s A Haunting, William Shatner’s Weird or What,
ABC’s Scariest Places on Earth, Monsters and Mysteries in
America, and Beyond Belief, and is a frequent contributor to
Ripley’s Believe it or Not Radio.

while spending time in fellowship!
Duct Tape Beach Bags – Tammy Berg
- Bring a scissors, exacto knife, rotary
cutter, and measuring tape if you have
them. Materials will be provided, but
you may bring 3 coordinating rolls of
Duck Tape (at least one solid color) if
you wish.
Paper Cutting - Gitte Mohr - Bring
a fine scissors and/or an exacto knife
with a sharp blade.

emphasis this year will be on teaching
folks to accompany and jam classic
rock and traditional music (as
opposed to learning how to play a folk
instrument in a jam format). If you
