Product Description
The classic cuff top valance is a unique and classy custom valance. The
cuff top valance features a unique shape created by alternating cuffs and horns.
This is especially evident when viewing the valance from the side. This window
treatment is available in a variety of widths, from a narrow French door valance
all the way to a 163" wide size for large windows that span an entire wall.
For the cuffs, you can choose either a contrasting fabric or use the same
fabric for the entire valance. Ring top or drapery medallion installation possible.
For bay and bow windows, we recommend drapery medallion installation.
Length of valance depends on trim options and ring top/drapery medallion
hardware. Because of this variation, approximate jabot length is 25 to 31 inches.
Please contact us if you will be ordering several valances in drastically different
widths. That way, we will be able to ensure that the jabots on all valances are
the same length.

Step-by-Step Ordering Guide
To order the cuff top valance, you must use our design tool. Our design tool
lets you choose from over 1,200 fabrics and other customizable options such as
sizes, trims, linings and more.
To start your design, click here.
You will have to go through a series of steps to design your product. After
you have chosen a custom component, you will need to keep clicking on “Move
to Next Step” until you finally finish your custom design. If you are ready to
purchase the product, you can click on the “I’m Finished – Review and Add to
Cart” button.
Step 1 – Fabric:
Here, you get to select the fabric for the front of the valance. If you want to
narrow down the fabric choices, you can check the desired fabric categories that
you are looking for – for example, if you know you want a toile fabric, you can
check the box next to “Toile” to narrow down your selection. Also remember

that some fabric thumbnails have a small “CF” label on them. This means that
the fabric is part of a color family. Color families are groupings of coordinating
fabrics, trims and wall paint colors that you may use as an additional design aid.
Step 2 – Accent Fabric:
Select your accent fabric. The entire back of the valance will be lined in this
chosen accent fabric. The accent fabric will show in the cuffs.
Step 3 – Trim:
You may also opt to add trim to your custom valance. This selection is
optional; if you do not wish to add trim, you can simply skip this step without
making any choices.
Step 4 – Width:
This valance can be made to fit windows 22 to 163 inches wide. Measure
the width of your window, including the wooden frame, if any, and select a
valance width that fits in that width range.
DESIGNER TIP: If you will install draperies underneath this valance, we

recommend that you add 10 to 20 inches to your window measurement, if
space permits, to make your window appear larger.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ARCHED AND PALLADIUM WINDOWS:
Follow measuring instructions above. However, valance will only work as a
curtain rod installation. The drapery medallion installation will not work on
arched or palladium windows.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SLIDING GLASS DOORS (assuming 77 to 80”
door height):
Without trim, ensure that the distance from the top of the sliding glass
door to the ceiling or crown molding is at least 27 inches. If you will be adding
trim to the valance, ensure that the distance from the top of the sliding glass
door to the ceiling or crown molding is at least 31 inches. Otherwise, follow
measuring instructions above.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FRENCH DOORS:
If the panes of your window are 22 to 26 inches wide, the French door
version will work as an inside mount. You may install this valance onto a

magnetic curtain rod if you are unable to drill into your French door. For steel
doors, select the curtain rod installation, not the medallion installation.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BAY AND BOW WINDOWS:
STEP 1:
Measure the following widths:
 the width of the wall(s) in the center (A).
 the width from the farthest point of each side window to the
next wall towards the center (B, D).
 Add an allowance (C).
STEP 2:
Let's assume that we measured A at 48 inches, B+C at 36 inches and
D+C at 36 inches. Next, we need to divide those numbers by the width
of each cuff to make sure that the ties will be installed at the right
places. Each cuff is about 7.75 to 9.00 inches wide. Let's see if we can figure out how many cuffs each
section will have. 48 inches divided by 6 cuffs gives us 8-inch wide cuffs. To verify, 8 is between 7.75 and
9.00. 36 inches divided by 4 cuffs gives us 9-inch cuffs, another number that falls between 7.75 and 9.00
inches. This means that our side windows will have 4 cuffs each and our center window will have 6 cuffs.
That's 14 cuffs total, so we need to order the cuff top valance with 14 cuffs.
In step 6 of your custom design, make sure to select the drapery medallion installation, not the curtain rod
installation.

Step 5 – Lining:
The valance is lined entirely in your chosen accent fabric. In addition, you
may also select felt thermal interlining to go between the two layers of fabric,
which will give the valance a better shape and make it fuller and heavier. We
also recommend adding interlining if there is a large contrast in color or pattern
between the two chosen fabrics.
Step 6 – Installation:
You may select either a curtain rod or drapery medallion installation. Make
sure that you followed the measuring instructions above. Both curtain rod and
drapery medallion installation will not work on all window types.

Measuring and Installation Recommendation
Measuring Instructions:
This valance can be made for windows 22 to 163 inches wide. Follow
measuring instructions found on pages 6 through 8.
Installation Instructions:
This valance can be installed using clip-on curtain rings onto a curtain rod,
or it can be installed onto drapery medallions (or tiebacks) using ties. Hardware
not included.

Frequently Asked Questions
My window width falls within two width options. Which one do I choose?
Let's say that your window width is 76 inches. You can choose the valance
version with eight or nine cuffs. If you want a rich valance with greater volume,
opt for nine cuffs. If you are on a budget or want a more casual and less formal
look, opt for the valance with eight cuffs. Also, if you choose to add draperies
underneath, it is always a wise idea to get a valance that is slightly wider.
Which installation version is better, the one with curtain rings or the one
with medallions?
Medallions add more custom detail to the valance. They are great if you want a
more unique look or if your valance spans across windows that are at an angle
to each other (i.e. bay window). Big medallions add richness to the look. Make
sure to follow the measuring instructions above as both types of installation
methods aren’t possible on all window types.

Should I get thermal interlining?
Interlining gives a valance more shape so it's always a wise choice. With the cuff
top valance, it will especially point out the "curves" that the cuffs and horns
create. If you want the valance to have more volume and a better shape, if you
choose thinner face fabrics (i.e. faux silks) and a vivid accent fabric, then we
recommend interlining.
What kinds of trims do you suggest? I'm afraid that I will pick the wrong
kind.
Each product has already been configured to allow you to choose only trims that
will work with it. Short trims are not offered on valances with deep, voluminous
folds and similarly, big and bulky trims aren't an option when it comes to
scalloped products with sharp edges and curves that need to be sewn with
utmost attention to detail. Feel free to choose any trim that the product allows
in its drop-down list. And remember, colors don't have to match exactly, but
they need to go together.

Why is the fabric that I like not available from the selection?
Likely, it is inappropriate and would jeopardize the shape and look of the
valance. You will not find such fabrics available as an option.
