Canterbury Cats NHL Selection Process 2015 The 2015 Canterbury Cats team to compete in the 2015 National Hockey League (NHL) will be selected by the following process: An extended training squad will be named in May following the completion of the National Under 21 Tournament and will comprise players that have been identified as being candidates to be selected for the final NHL team for 2015. Additional players may be added to and removed from the extended training squad from May onwards if it is deemed appropriate by the selectors. The team to compete in the 2015 National Hockey League will be selected as follows: Performances at extended squad training’s, practice matches and the selectors observations of the Canterbury Region Premier League matches and National Under 21 Tournament The selectors reserve the right to include players unable to attend any of the training squad process in the final squad. Players included under these circumstances may be: Guest players from outside of Canterbury as permitted within the Hockey New Zealand ‘National Regional Tournament Rules 2015’ Players who are proven performers at the Under 21 level (or above) Players who are injured Players who qualify for Canterbury under the ‘Region of Origin’ rule The final team of 18 players will be named in accordance with Hockey New Zealand rules for the National Hockey League in mid July. It is important to note that as per the Hockey New Zealand rules and regulations for the National Hockey League, the selectors are permitted to include a maximum of six guest players in the tournament squad, (up to four national guest players and up to two international guest players). The selectors are: Chris Leslie Aaron Ford Sue Innes The selectors may also invite other individuals considered to have appropriate expertise to assist in the selection process at any stage. The extent of any engagement by any invited individual into the selection process is at the discretion of the selectors.
