CHILDRESS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO HOST AUTISM
AWARENESS CELEBRATION
STUDENTS WILL RELEASE OVER 400 BLUE BALLOONS
What:
Bill Childress Elementary School (BCE) of the Canutillo Independent
School District (CISD) will host a balloon release at 1:30 p.m. on
Friday, April 24, 2015. The school, which houses CISD’s Autism Unit
for grades 3-5, has planned parent readings beginning in the cafeteria
followed by the balloon release in front of the school. Over 400
students at the elementary will release blue balloons to celebrate their
gifted peers who have Autism.

Unit; CISD administrators
Additional Info: BCE is one of two schools in CISD to house a unit with specially
trained professionals to assist the district’s Autistic population. Jose
Damian Elementary houses the unit for grades K-2. This is a newly
formed unit at the elementary that has tremendous parent support. The
elementary participated in CISD’s Blue-Out for Autism Awareness on
April 2 and will have participants in the 7th Annual Autism Run/Walk
happening at Ascarate Park on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
