Quick sizing lesson: 215-65x10R
The 65 indicates that this tire size’s sidewall height (from
rim to tread) is 65% of its section width. The higher the
number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number,
the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size’s
section width is 215mm and that its section height is
65% of 215mm. By converting the 215mm to inches (225
/ 25.4 = 8.46”) and multiplying it by 65% (.65) we confirm
that this tire size results in a tire section height of 5.5”.
We then double the section height (5.5 x 2) and add that
to the wheel size (10) and you have the overall inflated
tire diameter. The “R” refers to wether or not the tire is a
Radial tire or not. If you do not see a “R”, it is not a Radial.
