Media Release Chair updates Edmonton Councillors on successes, benefits of Capital Region Board at final stop on CRB Road Show tour (EDMONTON March 24, 2015) In a presentation to Edmonton City Councillors today the Chair of the Capital Region Board (CRB) said the city benefits from participation in CRB in regional strategic and growth planning and advocacy. The presentation at the City’s Executive Committee completed a Road Show tour of Chair update visits to all 24 CRB member municipalities that began about a year ago. CRB Chair Nolan Crouse told City Council that although population in the Capital Region will double in 30 years, Edmonton’s population as a percentage is projected to continue to decline – from 81% in 1971, 70% in 2014 to 66% in 2044. “Edmonton is recognized as the anchor and the service hub of the Capital Region,” said Crouse. “It is increasingly a leader in promoting the benefits of regional density and regional transit and in the development of creative regional policy. As the region and the CRB mature, Edmonton will continue to benefit directly through the increasing regional collaboration that we are experiencing even now, particularly in provincial and federal advocacy, and in regional economic development, growth planning, housing and GIS.” He concluded by highlighting the Board’s current Strategic Plan priorities for 2014-18, which include building on a collaborative culture and developing a regional vision, as well as delivering by next year an updated regional growth plan and a regional economic development site selector tool to enhance global competiveness. The CRB represents the 24 municipalities of Alberta’s Capital Region, leading regional action toward global opportunity with a focus on growth, transportation, housing and regional services. -30Contact: Nolan Crouse CRB Chair Phone: (780) 638-6000 Loreen Lennon Media Liaison Phone/text: (587) 982-4998 Visit www.capitalregionboard.ab.ca
