INTEGRATE AND SEARCH ACROSS ANY RELATIONAL DATABASE
OR SPREADSHEET WITHOUT CENTRALIZING YOUR DATA
INTRODUCTION
Capsenta’s solution capability powers the interconnectivity of disparate data sources across the
healthcare domain. Ultrawrap™ by Capsenta Inc. is enabling software that integrates and enriches
disparate databases with semantic technology, thereby facilitating real time assimilation of data and
next generation search across data sets simultaneously. In healthcare, access to the right data, at the
right time and in the right setting can save lives and improve efficiencies. Ultrawrap enables any
number of disparate relational databases to be virtually integrated in a real time manner to ensure you
have access to the latest and most critical information.
Tools and capabilities available to IT data professionals have lagged behind the need to keep up
with business demands such as:
1.
2.
3.
quickly blending data from two merged hospital systems;
bringing clinical, administrative and operational data together; and
retrieving critical clinical data from a device vendors registry, enabling a clinician in an emergency
room to quickly treat a patient knowing exactly what device a patient may have implanted.
Capsenta has created world class, novel technologies that enable immediate value from integration of
data both residing in structured and unstructured legacy databases, spreadsheets or any other external
third party databases. Regardless of database platform, regardless of structured or unstructured data,
Capsenta provides the only complete, standards compliant, performance benchmark proved solution
to relational database upward compatibility.

THE CAPSENTA SOLUTION FOR RELATIONAL DATABASE MANAGEMENT
Capsenta’s patented solution capability powers the interconnectivity of disparate data
sources across the healthcare domain enabling any number of data sources, regardless
of database platform to be virtualized and searched in real-time without the need for
data centralization resulting in decreased resource utilization and improved agility.
Understanding the value of semantic technology requires understanding the limitations posed by
relational database management. Relational databases are pervasive in most organizations. Relational
databases perform transaction update functions well, particularly handling the difficult issues of consistency during update. However, relational databases apply much of the same overhead required for
complex update operations to every activity, and that can handicap them for other functions. Relational databases struggle with the efficiency of certain operations key to data management.
•
Don’t do unstructured data search very well.
•
Do not integrate well with competitive database solutions.
•
To best optimize database performance, data needs to be centralized, thereby placing guardrails
surrounding real time analysis of highly transactional databases.
Ultrawrap enables data to be virtualized as a data graph enabling data to be integrated much easier
and faster than in its relational form. Thus, data can remain in its existing relational schema, continue
operating in a highly transactional environment, and be virtually integrated and searchable without
disturbing its underlying structure and without performance degradation.

CAPSENTA OVERVIEW
Capsenta rapidly assimilates massive amounts of data from companies internal relational
databases such as medical, pharmacy, laboratory claims, encounters, etc and integrates that
with external open data such as census, NPI, registry and state medical license information.
Previously siloed data assets are integrated and enriched without being exported from their transactional
environment. This enables users to assess data in real time, visualize relationships across disparate
databases and dynamically explore opportunities. Capsenta’s patented Ultrawrap technology virtualizes
relational data in a graph form and through the Ultrawrap Mapper, it identifies the most probable
relationships between disparate data and frees up IT resources to focus on the key performance indicators to enhance your business.
Released from the complexity of data centralization, you can easily explore enterprise-wide data and
generate actionable insights. And because Capsenta supports all conventional database security modes,
you can be confident that your data is handled and protected in accordance with industry standards.
Unique Approach to Data Protection
Capsenta recognizes the importance of delivering secure products and services at a security
level that our business clients demand. Capsenta will present solutions backed by HIPAA, HiTech
and HiTrust assessments and certifications necessary to convey the critical terms of Business
Associate Agreements.

CAPSENTA IN ACTION
Capsenta is broadly deploying across health organizations to support a wide range of
business challenges.
Master Provider Management
Master data management is a critical success factor of every successful organization. Consistency
surrounding key internal data sets such as customers, partners, products, materials, employees
and locations are essential. When systems use different terms or produce different results, executives and employees struggle to trust their data and decisions.

physicians and other healthcare providers.
Maintaining accurate and timely provider information is a common problem among providers
and payers throughout healthcare. Capsenta's technology solutions significantly improve
the quality and cost of maintaining critical reference data; enabling real time updates of provider information to effectively serve critical processes within your organization. Revenue
cycle payment precision, referral management, licensing, electronic claims submission,
research and myriad other functions in health care benefit from clean provider data.
Capsenta has developed new technology that DOES NOT require retiring a relational database or creating a parallel data warehouse. The existing relational database can remain
intact without the need for nightly data warehouse updates.

Medical Device Identification
The medical device market continues to experience a rapid rate of change in global markets, leading
to significant discussions around strategy and emerging business solutions. Trends are converging,
leading to the need for transformational service models that reduce cost while delivering increased
value to hospital customers.
The centralization of like devices into a common registry for accurate identification would increase
efficiency in emergency care as well reduce the clinical service burden. In a highly competitive
environment, the barrier to creating a common registry has been for vendors to align strategies and
agree to house implanted data for identification purposes in a common database. By eliminating the
requirement of a common database and building a service model that allows for vendors to maintain
their independent registries yet provide a federated search mechanism, the barrier to a common
registry is eliminated. The federated search mechanism allows a clinical user to simultaneously
look-up a patient’s device information from all vendors without the need to host all vendors in a
common database. Capsenta technology delivers a solution that allows vendors to retain their
independent databases while providing the integrated search that will improve patient care.
Constitutional Law
Constitutional design and redesign is constant. Over the last 200 years, countries have replaced their
constitutions an average of every 19 years and some have amended them almost yearly. A basic
problem in the drafting of these documents is the search and analysis of model text deployed in
other jurisdictions. Traditionally, this process has been ad hoc and the results suboptimal. As a result,
drafters generally lack systematic information about the institutional options and choices available to
them. In order to address this informational need, the investigators developed a web application,
(http://www.constituteproject.org), with the use of semantic technologies.
The Comparative Constitutions Project provides searchable access to the world’s constitutions using
the conceptualization, texts, and data developed by the Comparative Constitutions Project, improving
the efficiency and systematization of constitutional design and, thus, supporting the independence and
self-reliance of constitutional drafters.
Capsenta was selected by Google Ideas and global universities prominent in constitutional law to
be to the semantic layer for the Comparative Constitutions Project. This project’s goal was to investigate the sources and consequences of constitutional choices.

“The professionalism and technical acumen of the Capsenta team is first rate. If not for the
differentiated ability of the Capsenta's Ultrawrap(TM) solution to enrich the data with
semantics, the integration and faceted search of disparate constitutional data would have
not been possible." Dr Zachary Elkins, PhD, Comparative Constitutions Project Lead and Professor
of Government, University of Texas.
"In supporting the development of Constitute, we relied heavily on the processing of
constitutional data. We were incredibly impressed with Capsenta's founder's leadership
and knowledge of semantic integration"
