FEATURED ART WORKSHOPS
This spring you have the opportunity to try out various types of art. No skills or prior knowledge necessary. We will
provide all supplies. All workshops are free. Create something for yourself or to give away as a gift.
•
Pastel Drawing: SIU student, Darbie Thompson, teaches you how to work with pastels. Layer and blend vibrant
colors to create your very own masterpiece. Sunday, April 12 from 3:30-4:30pm.
•
Print Making: Create a unique custom stamp to create some really neat artwork. Sunday, April 19 from 3:304:30pm
•
Perspective Painting: Learn to create cityscapes and landscapes using perfect perspective. Create your very own
work of art! Sunday, April 26 from 3:30-4:30pm
•
Paper-Cut Collage Inspired by Henri Matisse: Learn about Henri Matisse and create a beautiful collage. Lorena
Masterson, local artist, shows how to cut and mix various shapes and mediums to create your very own unique
masterpiece. Tuesday, April 28 from 5:30-6:30pm.

Jewelry Making: Make your very own jewelry with Jeanie Kernagham. Learn how to use various jewelry making
tools. Create your own necklace. Monday, May 4 from 6:00-7:00pm.

Pinterest 101 & Craft: Learn how to use Pinterest to find craft making instructions and more. We will have
supplies for you to create your very own craft. Saturday, May 23 from 2:00-3:00pm.
BOOK CLUBS
•
Brown Bag & A Book Discussion Group: Bring any book to share or just come to listen to participants describe
what they liked or didn’t like. You are also welcome to bring your lunch or a snack. Anyone is welcome. Very fun
group. Meets each Monday. April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18 from noon-1:00pm.

Book Club: Meets the second Wednesday of each month at noon. Check our website for a complete 2015 Book
Reading List. On April 8, discuss “The Sixth Extinction: an unnatural history” by Elizabeth Kolbert. On May 13,
discuss “The Heart of Everything That Is: the untold story of Red Cloud, an American legend” by Bob Drury and
Tom Clavin. Plus, Stone Soup Shakespeare staff joins us to discuss “Shakespeare: The World as a Stage” by Bill
Bryson.
MISC PROGRAMS
•
Senior Coffee Club: Meets first Tuesday of each month, 9:30-10:30am. On April 7, join Laura Cates Duncan from
the Jackson County Historical Society who shares what resources can be found at JCHS and the services that they
offered. On May 5, join local artist Lorena Masterson to creating your very own masterpiece, simply using yarn
and paint.

Knitting: Come and be a part of the Knit-Niks. No experience required. Meets each Monday from 6:00pm8:00pm. April 6, 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, 18.
FILMS & DISCUSSIONS
•
“Limited Partnership” by Thomas G. Miller and Kirk Marcolina. One of the world’s first same-sex couples to
legally marry. Couple’s fight for justice raged on for 40 years, paving the way for the eventual defeat of the
Defense of Marriage Act. Discussion follows with local experts. Community Cinema. May 2 at 2:30pm.

“Much Ado About Nothing” with Stone Soup Shakespeare. A modern retelling of the classic comedy about two
pairs of lovers with different takes on romance and a way with words. Discussion follows. May 6 at 5:30pm.
COMPUTER HELP WORKSHOPS
•
Open Help: Get help with any technology issue. Learn to use your computer, cell phone or
tablet. See how to use your email or Facebook. Get help with downloading ebooks and
audiobooks. Practice on our computers or bring your own. Anyone is welcome. Thursdays
April 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, May 7, 14, 21, 28 anytime from 9-2:00pm
