IZBORNOM VEĆU BIOLOŠKOG FAKULTETA UNIVERZITETA U BEOGRADU Na V redovnoj sednici Izbornog veća Biološkog fakulteta-Univerzitet u Beogradu, održanoj 07.03.2014. godine, određeni smo u Komisiju za pripremu izveštaja o prijavljenim kandidatima na konkurs Biološkog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu za izbor jednog vanrednog profesora za užu naučnu oblast Fiziologija životinja i čoveka na Katedri za uporednu fiziologiju i ekofiziologiju u Institutu za fiziologiju i biohemiju Biološkog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu. Na konkurs objavljen u listu Poslovi od 19.03.2014. godine prijavio se jedan kandidat, dr Bato Korać. Na osnovu pregleda priloženih dokumenata Komisija je konstatovala da je kandidat dr Bato Korać priložio svu konkursom zahtevanu dokumentaciju i da je zadovoljio formalne uslove konkursa. Na osnovu detaljne analize dokumentacije Komisija podnosi Izbornom veću Biološkog fakulteta sledeći IZVEŠTAJ 1. Biografski podaci Dr Bato Korać rođen je 03.02.1962. godine u Beranama, gde je završio osmogodišnju školu i gimnaziju, a potom započeo studije na Prirodno-matematičkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu, na smeru Molekularna biologija i fiziologija studijske grupe Biologija. Diplomirao je 1988. godine. Iste godine upisao je poslediplomske studije na Biološkom fakultetu, smer Endokrinologija, koje je završio 1991. godine, odbranom magistarske teze Uticaj niske temperature i zračenja na aktivnost antioksidativnog sistema u nekim tkivima pacova. Doktorsku disertaciju pod naslovom Prilog poznavanju mehanizama sprečavanja oksidativnih oštećenja u koži pacova odbranio je 1996. godine na Biološkom fakultetu Univerziteta u Beogradu. Od jula 1990. godine zaposlen je u Odeljenju za fiziologiju, Instituta za biološka istraživanja „Siniša Stanković” (IBISS) u Beogradu, gde je 2008. godine izabran u zvanje naučni savetnik. Godine 2004. kolega Korać preraspodelio je radni angažman između IBISS (70%) i Biološkog fakulteta na kojem je izabran u nastavno zvanje docent na Katedri za uporednu fiziologiju i ekofiziologiju. Na istoj Katedri je 2009. godine izabran u zvanje vanredni profesor. 2. Oblast istraživanja Celokupan naučno-istraživački rad dr Bata Koraća vezan je za naučnu oblast Fiziologija, dok je uža oblast njegovog naučnog interesovanja uloga redoks-regulacije u odvijanju vitalnih ćelijskih procesa (proliferacije, hiperplazije, angiogeneze, mitohondriogeneze) u fiziološkim uslovima i tokom adaptacije na specifične uslove sredine, kao i u različitim patološkim stanjima. Izučavanje složenih fizioloških procesa, sa centralnim mestom ispitivanja molekularnih mehanizama delovanja reaktivnih vrsti kiseonika i azota, podrazumevao je multidisciplinarnost i kombinovanje biohemijskih, fizičko-hemijskih i molekularno-bioloških pristupa. To je rezultovalo značajnim doprinosom kandidata razvoju ove oblasti istraživanja u nas, posebno sa aspekta mogućnosti modulacije ćelijskog redoks-stanja u terapeutske svrhe. Fokusiranjem istraživanja na redoks senzitivne molekule i procese, te redoks senzitivne transkripcione faktore, dr Bato Korać je dodatno doprineo rasvetljavanju fizioloških i patofizioloških efekata reaktivnih vrsta. Na taj način, uspostavljajući specifične metodološke principe, kandidat pokazuje da se fizološki odgovor može modulirati podešavanjem unutarćelijskih koncentracija reaktivnih vrsta, sa mogućnošću terapeutskog pristupa kod metaboličkih poremećaja. 3. Prikaz radova Naučno-istraživački rad dr Bata Koraća, najopštije, obuhvata ispitivanje molekulske osnove redoks-mehanizama u regulaciji ćelijskih i fizioloških procesa. Značenje termina oksidativni stres korenito je redefinisano poslednjih godina. Umesto pojma koji obuhvata pogubni disbalans reaktivnih vrsta koji dovodi do strukturnih oštećenja ćelija i patološke izmene ćelijskih procesa, danas se govori o redoks-regulaciji i homeostazi slobodnih radikala, koja obuhvata oksidante i reduktante, antioksidativnu odbranu (AD), kao i redoks–senzitivne molekule, posebno transkripcione faktore. Napredak u ovoj oblasti biomedicinskih nauka u svetu praćen je promenama, kako u istraživačkom prilazu, tako i definisanju uloge reaktivnih vrsta u biološkim sistemima, posebno kiseonika (ROS) i azota (RNS). Ovom razvoju modernog koncepta i shvatanja molekulskih osnova redoks–regulacije doprineo je i dr Bato Korać svojim celokupnim naučnim radom. Kandidat se bavio ispitivanjem 37 mehanizama delovanja slobodnih radikala u različitim sistemima, u fiziološkim i patološkim stanjima, na životinjskim modelima i u studijama na ljudima. Na početku svog naučnog rada kandidat se bavio ispitivanjem tkivne specifičnosti antioksidativne odbrane tokom aklimacije organizma na nisku temperaturu u mrkom masnom tkivu, (BAT) (1, 4, 6, 7, 12, 28-30, 47, 58, 59, 100, 106), belom masnom tkivu (102, 107, 110), mišićima (11, 106), koži (9, 26, 27, 39, 41, 44, 53, 54) i pankreasu (10). Ispitivana je uloga reaktivnih vrsta - azot oksida (NO), superoksid anjon radikala (O2˙-) i ugljen monoksida (CO) u procesima koji prate remodeliranje tkiva, kao što su promene intenziteta oksidativnog metabolizma, lipolitičke aktivnosti, simpatičke inervacije, angiogeneze, mitohondriogeneze i dekuplovanja. Navedeni radovi kandidata jasno pokazaju da se fiziološki značaj antioksidativne odbrane tkiva može sagledati tek u sklopu novo-uspostavljene telesne homeostaze, te da postoji jasna veza antioksidativne odbrane tkiva sa njegovim metaboličkim i funkcijskim profilom. Rezultati kandidata ukazuju i na ulogu NO u remodeliranju BAT, kao i na neophodnost prisustva ovog molekula u ispoljavanju adekvatnog odgovora na nisku temperaturu i hiperplaziju tkiva. Naime, pokazano je da NO stimuliše proliferaciju mrkih adipocita i angiogenezu u stimulisanom BAT (1, 6, 7, 8, 12, 28, 29, 30, 47). Isti rezultati ukazuju i da je NO snažan faktor indukcije mitohondriogeneze, povećanja udela kristi u mitohondrijama, intenziviranja metaboličke aktivnosti mitohondrija, sinteze dekuplujućeg proteina 1 (UCP1) i noradrenalinske transmisije (6, 12). U jednom delu svojih istraživanja (9, 26, 41), kandidat se bavi istraživanjem kože, koja je neprestano izložena oksidativnom pritisku. Navedeni radovi kandidata pokazuju da se antioksidativna odbrana može modulisati oralnom i lokalnom suplementacijom antioksidanata, te da se na taj način može ostvariti adekvatna zaštita. Dr Korać se, takođe, bavi ispitivanjem mogućnosti modulacije antioksidativne odbrane organizma od zračenja (60, 69, 136), hemoterapije (26, 147), toplotnog šoka i termalne povrede (41, 137), hibernaciji (37, 40, 42) i posebno, ispitivanjem redoks-procesa u animalnm modelu shizofrenije (91, 94) i kod ljudi obolelih od shizofrenije (148), epilepsije (63, 67), psorijaze (39, 44) i hiperplazije endometrijuma (3). Posebno plodna oblast istraživanja dr Koraća jeste ispitivanje mehanizama redoks–regulacije u pacijenata sa insulin-zavisnim (tip 1) i insulin-nezavisnim dijabetesom (tip 2), kao i na životinjskom modelu dijabetesa indukovanog aloksanom. Kod ljudi sa insulin-nezavisnim dijabetesom pokazana je direktna zavisnost intenziteta lipidne peroksidacije od hiperlipidemičnog statusa (46, 101), a uočene su i promene u vezi sa izmenjenim antioksidativnim statusom pacijenata kao posledicom navedenog patološkog stanja. U životinjskom modelu aloksanom indukovanog dijabetesa, izučavana je uloga NO u redoks-regulaciji β-ćelija pankreasa, modulacijom produkcije NO izazvane L-argininom i L-NAME. Pomenuto istraživanje ukazalo je na stimulatorni efekat NO u transkripciono-regulisanoj restituciji strukture i funkcije pankreasa u dijabetesu (8, 99, 105). U ovom modelu pokazano je i da davanje Larginina povećava broja insulin-imunopozitivnih β-ćelija pankreasa, povećava ekspresiju i jedarnu 38 translokaciju glavnog regulatora ekspresije insulina i markera neogeneze β ćelija - PDX-1, kao i jedarnog markera proliferišućih ćelija - PCNA, što se konačno reflektuje povećanjem serumske koncentracije insulina. Takođe je pokazano da tretman L-argininom menja ekspresioni profil izoformi azot oksid sintaza (NOS) u pankreasu u fiziološkim uslovima i u dijabetesu (8, 10,). Pojačana ekspresija neuronalne izoforme ovog enzima (nNOS) kod životinja sa indukovanim dijabetesom i tretiranih L-argininom, ukazuje na to da L-arginin, posredstvom nNOS, modulira sekreciju insulina i regeneraciju β-ćelija. Skorašnji istraživački rad kandidata dr Bata Koraća nastavak je prethodnih istraživanja koja se odnose na molekularne mehanizama redoks-regulacije i njihovu ulogu u patogenezi i progresiji nekih patoloških stanja. Tako se kandidat bavi izučavanjem veze izmenjenog redoks-stanja i razvoja bubrežne insuficijencije i hipertenzije kod osoba sa dijabetesom (50). U grupi pacijenata sa dijabetesom i hipertenzijom, sa ili bez asocirane renalne insuficijencije, praćena je aktivnost Cu,Znsuperoksid dismutaze (SOD1) eritrocita. Rezultati ukazuju da narušena homeostaza O2˙- korelira sa razvojem komplikacija u dijabetesu, odnosno, sa pojavom bubrežne insuficijencije i/ili hipertenzije. Iako su u krvi obe grupe hipertenzivnih pacijenata ustanovljeni viši nivoi glukoze i HbA1c u odnosu na zdrave osobe, aktivnost SOD1 veća je u grupi dijabetičnih pacijenata sa koegzistirajućom hipertenzijom i renalnom insuficijencijom, ali ne kod hipertenzivnih dijabetičara bez nefropatije. Ovi rezultati nedvosmisleno pokazuju da povećan oksidativni pritisak jeste jedan od faktora koji doprinosi razvoju nefropatija kod bolesnika sa dijabetesom. Značaj istraživanja dr Bata Koraća dobio je potvrdu preglednim radom (52) u kojem je na sveobuhvatan način predstavljena uloga NO i arginina u terapiji dijabetesa. Detalјno su opisani svi aspekti redoks-regulacije posredovane NO i njemu srodnim reaktivnim vrstama u modulaciji metabolizma u dijabetesu, energetske homeostaze, delovanju na transkripcione faktore uklјučene u regeneraciju β-ćelija, regulaciju sinteze i sekrecije insulina, insulinske rezistencije, gojaznosti i redukcije gojaznosti, kao i remodeliranja belog i mrkog masnog tkiva u dijabetesu. Istraživanja BAT obuhvatila su ispitivanje mehanizama kompleksnih molekulskih i strukturnih promena koji su podržani reprogamiranjem energetskog metabolizma. Poseban značaj ovih rezultata je u pojašnjenju specifične uloge redoks-procesa, posebno NO u regulaciji fiziološkog odgovora tkiva (13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 32, 33, 34). Efekti na transkripcionom nivou, ostvareni specifičnom aktivacijom transkripcionog faktora HIF-1α usklađeni su sa metaboličkom regulacijom i reprogamiranjem intermedijernog metabolizma preko AMPK. Specifična, redoks-zavisna regulacija glikolize i oksidativne fosforilacije, metabolizma šećera i masti, u funkciji je održanja strukturnog i funkcijskog integriteta tkiva, proliferacije i diferencijacije mrkih adipocita, mitohondriogeneze, angiogeneze i ukupne energetske homeostaze (16). 39 Radovi kandidata detaljno opisuju mehanizme odgovorne za regulaciju proliferativnog kapaciteta i ćelijske smrti mrkih adipocita, tj. regulacije hiperplazije i atrofije BAT (48). Uloga insulina u ovim procesima, posredovana indukcijom TNF-α, bacila je novo svetlo na ovu oblast, ističući višestrani značaj insulina. Na životinjskom modelu hiperinsulinemije ispitan je uticaj insulina na remodeliranje mrkog masnog tkiva i značaj za termogenu funkciju (34). Uočeno je da hiperinsulinemija izaziva atrofiju tkiva, usled apoptoze mrkih adipocita i endotelskih ćelija, te da su ove promene direktno izazvane oslobađanjem gvožđa u procesu hemolitičke eritrofagocitoze, peroksidativnim oštećivanjem mitohondrija i nagomilavanjem lipofuscina u mrkim adipocitima. Kao kompenzatorni mehanizam pokušaja oporavka ćelija iz programa ćelijske smrti, uočeno je remodeliranje mitohondrija, kako njihovog broja, tako i oblika i lokalizacije. Budući da je hiperinsulinemija povezana sa insulinskom rezistencijom, metaboličkim sindromom i dijabetesom, ovi rezultati značajno doprinose razumevanju patoloških mehanizama pomenutih sindroma i srodnih metaboličkih poremećaja ljudi, jer ukazuju na potencijalne terapeutske mete i nove pristupe lečenju metaboličkih obolјenja, prevashodno gojaznosti i dijabetesa, baziranih na prevenciji (per)oksidativnih oštećenja mitohondrija i nagomilavanja lipofuscina (30). Kandidat dr Bato Koraća bavio se i ulogom NO u modulaciji aktivnosti ubikvitinproteazomalnog sistema (49). Pokazano je da intenzivna metabolička aktivnost BAT, praćena strukturnim remodelovanjem tkiva, korelira sa aktivnošću ubikvitin-proteazomalnog sistema. Takođe je pokazano da NO moduliše taj odgovor, uticajem na ubikvitin-proteazomalni sistem, kako u termogeno-neaktivnom, tako i u termogeno-aktivnom tkivu. Takođe je pokazano da suplementacija arginina indukuje ovaj efekat upravo posredstvom NO, što dodatno potvrđuje nalaz da je on suprimiran kada se koristi neselektivni inhibitor azot oksid sintaze, L-NAME. Ubikvitinproteozomalni sistem i lizozomalni autofagni put su dva glavna načina za unutarćelijsku razgradnju proteina sa izmenjenom konformacijom, oksidativnim oštećenjem ili nekom drugom modifikovacijom. Ovaj nalaz posebno je važan u metabolički aktivnom BAT, kod kojeg se uočava višestruko povećanje stope oksidativnog metabolizma, proliferacije i intenzivna sinteza proteina. Održavanje homeostaze tkiva, strukturnog integriteta ćelija i organela mrkih adipocita i endotelskih ćelija, mora biti praćeno ravnotežom između degradacije i sinteze proteina. Potpuno odsustvo promena na nivou ekspresije ubikvitina tokom izlaganja hladnoći (metabolički aktivno tkivo), sa izrazitim gašenjem ekspresije i u neaktivnom i aktivnom tkivu kada su životinje suplementirane argininom ukazuje na nove mehanizme održavanja unutarćelijskog balansa proteina, u kojima važnu ulogu ima NO. Jedna od centralnih tema sadašnjih istraživanja dr Koraća jesu mitohondrije, kao centralna meta delovanja farmakološki aktivnih supstanci (18). Istraživanja pokazuju da mitohondrije imaju ulogu u kardioprotekciji indukovanoj primenom dva tipa anestetika, inhalacionih (sevofluran) i 40 intravenskih (propofol) kod pacijenata koji su podvrgnuti operaciji usled aortne stenoze. Pokazana je razlika u putevima delovanja dva tipa anestetika, pri čemu se naglašava da sevofluran ostvaruje direktan uticaj na sintezu АТР, dok propofol reguliše integritet mitohondrijske membrane i produkciju ROS. Ovi rezultati mogu doprineti bolјem razumevanju mehanizama delovanja anestetika i njihovom adekvatnom odabiru pri hiruškim zahvatima kod kardiovaskularnih obolјenja. U modelu fetalnog razvoja BAT kod ljudi, kandidat je, radeći na tkivima fetusa starosti 15, 17, 20 i 23 nedelјe, ispitivao ulogu estrogenih receptora (ERα i ERβ) u opredelјivanju, proliferaciji i diferencijaciji stem ćelija (22). Pored ultrastrukturnog i imunohistohemijskog karakterisanja ćelijskih linija u programu diferenciranja, izučavani su transkripcioni master regulatori uklјučeni u diferencijaciju, proliferaciju, mitohondriogenezu i termogenezu: PPARγ, PCNA, PGC-1α i UCP1 na nivou RNK i proteinske ekspresije, kao i njihova kolokalizacija. Rezultati pokazuju da estrogeni imaju važnu ulogu u fetalnom razvoju ovog tkiva i to prevashodno preko ERα, ali i da su mitohondrije cilјne organele estrogena u njihovom ne-genomskom efektu. Rezultati su od važnosti za objašnjenje uloge endokrinih disruptora u etiologiji metaboličkog sindroma, sa cilјem sprečavanja preteranog izlaganja fetusa visokim koncentracijama estrogena iz sredine. Poseban segment istraživanja kandidata predstavlja ispitivanje molekulskih osnova regulacije energetskog metabolizma tokom aklimacije i u hibernaciji evropske tekunice, Spermophilus citellus, sa posebnim akcentom na njihovu redoks-zavisnost (23, 186). U ovoj opsežnoj studiji dr Korać opisuje važnost transkripcionih faktora HIF-1, PPAR i PGC-1α, kao i energetskog senzora AMPK u koordinaciji reprogramiranja energetskog metabolizma u tkivima/organima: BAT, skeletnim mišićima, specifičnim depoima belog masnog tkiva (WAT): subkutanom i visceralnim (retroperitoneumskom i epididimskom), kao i u jetri. Pokazana je jasna korelacija energetskog metabolizma i promena AD u tkivima. Rezultati pokazuju da hibernacija indukuje proteinsku ekspresiju enzima AD u BAT i mišićima, ali da ne ostvaruje gotovo nikakav uticaj na ove enzime u jetri. S druge strane, specifični depoi WAT imaju karakteristične ekspresione profile enzima AD u hibernaciji. Centalni zaključak koji proizilazi iz ove studije jeste da su promene komponenti AD tkivno-specifične, spregnute sa energetskim metabolizmom i usmerene, kako ka obezbeđivanju uslova u tkivima za funkcionisanje na temperaturi blizu zamrzavanja, tako i ka prekondicioniranju tkiva za buđenje iz hibernacije. Takođe, dr Bato Korać usmerava svoja istraživanja ka redoks-zavisnim metaboličkim promena u belom masnom tkivu (31). Pokazano je da je adiponektin važan regulator u metaboličkim adaptacijama i da zajedno sa rezistinom uravnotežuje metabolički odgovor u tkivu. Pokazano je da AMPKα integriše metaboličke i endokrine aspekte tkiva (51). Na to se nadovezuju i objavljeni rezultati koji se odnose na metaboličku kontrolu u mišićima. Istaknuta je primarna uloga PPARγ i PGC-1α u kontroli metaboličkog reprogamiranja, odgovornog za očuvanje strukturnog integriteta mišića (21). 41 Od posebnog je značaja studija u kojoj dr Korać ispituje molekulske, redoks-zavisne mehanizme povezane sa metaboličkim sindromom i gojaznošću ljudi (36). Analizirane su biopsije visceralnog i potkožnog masnog tkiva abdominalne regije normalno uhranjenih žena i žena sa prokomerenom telesnom masom ili gojaznošću. Pokazano je da se dva depoa masnog tkiva normalno uhranjenih, metabolički zdravih ispitanica karakterišu specifičnim redoks-stanjem, pri čemu se visceralno masno tkivo odlikuje većim nivoom glutationa (GSH) i enzima uklјučenih u njegov metabolizam. Ovakav redoks status visceralnog depoa dovodi se u vezu sa intenzivnijom metaboličkom aktivnošću, posebno metaboličkim obrtom triacil-glicerola ovog depoa belog masnog tkiva u poređenju sa potkožnim. Dalјe se navodi da se u gojaznosti smanjuje nivo GSH u oba depoa kod gojaznih, metabolički zdravih osoba i diskutuje, da ovakva promena redoks-statusa može predstavlјati kritičan događaj u razvoju gojaznosti i njenih komplikacija. Ističe se da povećanje ekspresije NADPH oksidaze i smanjenje ekspresije MnSOD u visceralnom masnom tkivu metabolički gojaznih ispitanica, nezavisno od stepena uhranjenosti, pomera redoks-ravnotežu ka pro-oksidativnom stanju, što ukazuje na disfunkciju mitohondrija i peroksizoma u ovom depou. Nalaz koji dovodi u neposrednu vezu gojznost i metabolički sindrom sa povećanjem nivoa lipidnih peroksida u belom masnom tkivu, snažna je potpora pretpostavci da ova pato-fiziološka stanja prati izmenjena redoks ravnoteža. Deo istraživanja se odnosi i na ispitivanje utica NO na imunoekspresiju izoformi NOS, kao i vazointestinalnog peptida (VIP) u tankom crevu pacova (20). Dugotrajna suplementacija L-arginina povećava imunoekspresiju endotelske i inducibilne izoforme NOS i VIP, a smanjuje ekspresiju nNOS. Takođe, rezulati su jasno istakli da je dominantna izoforma NOS u tankom crevu endotelska, sa imunoekspresionim obrascem sličnim VIP. Topološka lokalizacija NO-produkujućih mesta u tankom crevu (enterocite, lamina propria, submukozni krvni sudovi, submukozni i mienterični pleksusi i muscularis mucosae), jasno pokazuje da NO u tankom crevu ispolјava svoje inherentno biološko delovanje, lokalno (kao autokrini/parakrini medijator) i kao neurotransmiter. Istraživanja dr Bata Koraća dala su značajan doprinos poznavanju redoks-mehanizama i u reproduktivnoj biologiji, tj. jasno su ukazali na uklјučenost redoks-senzitivnih puteva u kontroli kvaliteta - funkcionalnosti i fertilizacionog kapaciteta spematozoida (19, 24). Konkretno, dobijeni rezultati jasno su pokazali, da pentaazamakrociklični mimetik superoksid dismutaze (SOD mimetik), M40403, pobolјšava funkcijski status mitohondrija, kao i pokretlјivost spermatozoida i na taj način, pozitivno utiče na fertilizacioni potencijal muških polnih ćelija. Rezultati su ukazali da se primena ove klase mimetika može razmatrati kao obećavajuća farmakološka strategija za pobolјšanje funkcionalnog statusa spermatozoida i to pre svega tokom asistirane oplodnje i u tretmanu infertilnih stanja u čijoj osnovi je narušeno redoks-stanje spermatozoida. Šta više, pokazano je da M40403 povećava sadržaj NO u spermatozoidima, jasno ukazujući da ovaj redoks modulator može ostavarivati 42 pokazane efekte, upravo preko NO. Rezultati su takođe pokazali da mitohondrije nisu samo glavno mesto produkcije reaktivnih vrsta kiseonika i azota, već da je njihova funkcija regulisana posredstvom NO, što ima suštinski značaj u funkciji spermatozoida. Poseban doprinos ovih rezultata ogleda se u mogućnosti korišćenja novih redoks-aktivnih supstanci u terapiji steriliteta. Značaj dobijenih rezultata valorizovan je publikovanjem u najprestižnijem časopisu iz oblasti na koju se istraživanje odnosi (19), kao i revijalnom radu u kojem su sumirani ukupni rezultati (24). Ukupno gledano, naučni rad dr Bata Koraća dao je značajan doprinos upoznavanju redoksmehanizama u regulaciji ćelijskih i fizioloških procesa, kao i ulogu redoks-statusa u etiologiji, progresiji i razrešenju brojnih patoloških stanja i bolesti. 7. Učešće u nastavi Od 1998. godine do danas dr Bato Korać je angažovan za izvođenje nastave na predmetu Biohemija II (sada Biohemija metabolizma). Od 2004. godine do danas dr Bato Korać učestvuje u realizaciji nastave na predmetima Opšta i sistemska fiziologija (sada Fiziologija) na Katedri za uporednu fiziologiju i ekofiziologiju, u okviru redovne nastave na osnovnim akademskim studijama. Na master studijama kolega Korać drži nastavu na predmetu Osnovi patofiziologije, a na doktorskim studijama na predmetima, Oksidativni stres i redoks regulacija i Molekularni mehanizmi patofizioloških procesa. Za dosadašnji nastavni rad, u redovnim studentskim anketama kandidat je dobio najviše ocene. Dr Bato Korać je za predmet „Fiziologija“ priredio multimedijalni sadržaj „Fiziologija za studente biohemije“. Takođe, kandidat je uključen u eduktivne programe za nastavnike i profesore osnovnih i srednjih škola. 10. Članstvo u udruženjima Dr Bato Korać je član sledećih naučnih društava: Srpsko udruženje za upotrebu životinja u istraživanju i obrazovanju (kandidat je i predsednik Etičkog komiteta Udruženja) Društva za ishranu Srbije Društva za neuronauke Srbije Society for Free Radical Research - Europe Physiological Society Federation of European Biochemical Societies Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) i European Association for the Study of Diabetes. ZAKLJUČAK I PREDLOG KOMISIJE Pregledom dostavljene dokumentacije, kao i na osnovu ličnog poznavanja kandidata, Komisija zaključuje da je dr Bato Korać ispunio sve formalne uslove da bude ponovo izabran u zvanje vanredni profesor. Štaviše, ukupan bibliografski opus, kako u kvantitativnom, tako i u kvalitativnom smislu, njegova prepoznatljivost i značajan naučni doprinos u okviru oblasti redoks-regulacije fizioloških i patoloških procesa, već je potvrđen izborom kolege Koraća u 48 najviše naučno zvanje - naučni savetnik. Rad kolege Koraća u nastavi na svim nivoima studija, kao i njegovi napori u razvijanju naučnog podmlatka, razvoju nauke i naročito fiziologije redoks-regulacije i druge brojne nastavne i naučne aktivnosti, višestruko prevazilaze i uslove i kriterijume za izbor u najviše akademsko zvanje. Dr Bato Korać je od poslednjeg izbora u zvanje vanrednog profesora objavio 23 naučna rada, od kojih je čak 12 u kategoriji M21, 6 u kategoriji M22 i 3 u kategoriji M23, a njegovi radovi citirani su 235 puta. U istom periodu kolega Korać rukovodi nacionalnim projektom i aktivni je učesnik većeg broja međunarodnih COST i bilateralnih projekata. Član je većeg broja naučnih društava, a osnivač je i aktuelni predsednik Srpskog društva za mitohondrijalnu i slobodno-radikalsku fiziologiju. Dr Korać je recenzent u većem broju prestižnih naučnih časopisa. Nastavni rad dr Koraća odlikuje visok standard kvaliteta, privrženost nastavi i aktivno uključivanje studenata u naučni rad kroz diplomske, magistarske i doktorske radove. Uzimajući sve u obzir, članovi Komisije konstatuju da kandidat ispunjava sve formalne i suštinske uslove za izbor u navedeno zvanje i predlažu Izbornom veću Biološkog fakulteta Univerziteta u Beogradu da ponovo izabere dr Bata Koraća u zvanje vanredni profesor.
