Spring is finally here!! It has already affected the fabrics I
am buying. Nice soft pastels, lots of florals, even some
polka dots. I also managed to buy a few new blouses for
spring!! You know you have to brighten up that wardrobe,
just a little. How does spring affect the fabrics you buy?
CPQ had a large presence at the QSC meeting in Mt.
Pleasant. It was good to see our friends from across the
state. We received the grant from QSC for our quilt show
drapes. We so appreciate their support. Members of our
guild also delivered a Quilt of Valor quilt at the meeting.
A few of us attended the Mancuso show in Savannah in
March. The quality of the quilts was commendable. I
particularly enjoyed Vickie Clontz’s wearable art, featuring
lots of felted pieces and the “50 Shades of Gray” special
exhibit. Make a point to attend a Mancuso show this year.
They are always worth your time.
April brings the AQS show in Paducah, KY the 22nd-25th.
If some of you are going, please give us a report. It has
been quite a few years since I have been, but I know it is a
spectacular show.
I am sooo looking forward to the program this month. Be
sure to bring your personal teacup for drinking tea (unless
you don’t mind the paper cups we will furnish). Wear your
spring hat. I have been helping the program committee
collect teacups for you to make your pincushion. We have
a great selection. I have had a great time doing this. I
hope I can stop now! So grab your hat, and your show-ntell and join us for a great program led by Pat Kaufman
and MaryAnn Thompson.

THIS MONTH'S COLOR IS BLUE. Please
turn in any blue creations, pillowcases,
individual quilt blocks, small quilts, fat
quarter bags, etc. We will find a good loving
home for all of the things turned in.

Lydia Project
Please remember to turn in any Lydia bags
that you may have. I will have Lydia kits to
distribute if you need them.
Fidget Quilts
We had a great workshop making fidget
quilts. We will have another on April 20 (the
Monday after our regular meeting.) We will
meet at 9:00 a.m. at Hobby Lobby. Pat will
have everything you need to work on. Just
bring your sewing machine (or be prepared
to do handwork) and enthusiasm!

Comfort Quilts
If you took Comfort Quilt squares to work on,
please bring to Doris at the meeting.
Helping Hands
Several people have worked with the
residents at Helping Hands making the
pillows. Sparky has been teaching one of
the girls to do applique for her project.

I am making charity quilts with the pattern handed out
at last month's meeting by Carolyn Gibbons. I have set
a goal for myself. If any of you have fabric you can
donate to the cause it would be greatly appreciated. I
need: 1 yd, 3/4 yd, and 1/2 yd pieces. The finished
sizes are about 41 x 57 so if you have any pieces large
enough for backs, that would also be appreciated. I will
be at next month's meeting, so bring it on!
Thanks, Sparky Arbuckle

Welcome New Members!
When shopping for fabrics, take
the pattern. Also, tack fabric
samples to a 3" x 5" index card so
you can find just the right fabric
by comparing it to what you
already have.
Gail Hunter has about 10 years of
quilting experience, but is new to CPQ.
Judy Nightingale was convinced by
friends and neighbors to give quilting a
try.
Laura Muckenfyss is back after about a
10 year hiatus. She likes to make her
own quilt patterns.

Brief Biography of Linda Knutson
2015 Quilt Show Judge
First off, I have been quilting since 1967 and teaching
the last 25 years. I hope that doesn't give my age away.
I have taught at QSC Fall Retreat several times and
enjoyed every one of them. For the last 10 years, I have
been teaching three quilting classes every week at the
Summerville Senior Center and for the last 2 years, 1 or
2 classes a month at People, Places and Quilts shop. My
first quilt book "The Low Country Sampler" was
published this year and I will be teaching it at 2015 QSC
Fall Retreat. I've been judging on and off for the last 20
years and hope to continue for another 20 years.
Judging has always been the fun side to quilting because
I know what I've written on a judging sheet was to help
a quilter improve and challenge herself or himself to a
higher standard of quality in the next project to be
judged.
I also repair, stabilize and collect antique quilts. I also
have researched quilts, patterns and designers of the past
with national quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel and
others. I've had many of my own quilts judged and have
earned several ribbons for them. Every comment on my
quilts have helped me improve and see where my weak
areas were. So you can see there are many venues in
quilting which I have been lucky enough to be part of. I
hope quilting keeps you busy and contented as it has for
myself.
Happy Quilting!
For Sale: 1938 Singer Featherweight sewing
machine
Seller: First Presbyterian Church
This machine is beautiful, and she sews a
beautiful stitch. It has all the attachments and the
case is in good condition, except the leather
handle has deteriorated. The owner's manual is
intact, but is saturated with machine oil. I would
recommend a reprinted edition. The machine was
serviced in 2011, but has not been used. The
church women are offering this machine at
$200.00. The proceeds will be used for mission
projects.
Call Margot Salzman for information.
I will bring the machine to the April meeting.
