Read all instructions before beginning.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Hoop a piece of 9” x 12” fabric with heavy or medium weight cut-away stabilizer.
2. Load the towel topper design you wish to use on your embroidery machine and sew
out the design but stop before sewing the last color.
3. Take the piece of ribbon or bias binding and tape it to top of embroidery design with
the open end facing away from the embroidery design. The ribbon ends should not
overlap and should extend out 1/2” from the embroidery design. (Image 1)
4. Take the 6 x 6” piece of coordinating fabric and place it centered on top of the
embroidery design with the correct side of the fabric facing the embroidery design.
5. Sew the last color of the design which is a running stitch that sews both pieces of
fabric together and fixes the ribbon in place.
6. Remove the hoop from the embroidery machine and remove the fabric from the hoop.
7. Cut around the outside of the running stitch, leaving about 5mm of fabric from the
stitch. When trimming around the open end of the fabric, be sure to not cut the ribbon.
The outline stitch extends out from the embroidery design 1cm on the open end.
Cut the fabric straight across from one end to the to the other leaving 1-2cm of fabric
extending from the design.

Continued on back page
8. Fold up the ends of fabric on the open end of the towel topper and iron flat. This is where
the towel will be inserted. There should be a small amount of fabric showing
below the embroidery design that will be sewn on in the last step. (Image 2)
9. Turn the towel topper right side out and push out all the sides and corners to make it square.
Remove the tape from the ribbon being mindful of any stitching the tape may pull.
10. Sew a button onto the back piece of fabric of the towel topper about 1 inch from the top and
centered with the ribbon. This is how the topper will be attached to a towel rod or oven
handle. The button can be moved up or down to your preference if you need more or less
slack in the ribbon. (Image 3)
11. Fold a kitchen towel in half width wise and cut the towel in half. Only one half of a towel
is needed for the towel topper.
12. Gather or pleat the cut end of the towel and insert it into the towel topper. Arrange the towel
into place inside of the topper and pin if necessary. There should be about a 1/2” of the
towel inside of the towel topper.
(Image 2)
13. Use a sewing machine to sew a straight stitch along the bottom of the towel topper to
fix the towel into place.
You are ready to hang your towel.
