Never underestimate the difference YOU can make in the life of someone like YOU. Step forward, reach out and c’mon make a difference. Once upon a time, there was a wise man that used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work. One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up. As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean. He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?" The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean." "I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man. To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die." Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly makea difference!" At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "It made a difference for that one!" The more you take note of how the body and brain clicks along through the day, the more you can realize that a considerable amount of time is spent wandering around with a brain full of chatter; a rush of things to do. Meals to cook, bills to play, telephone calls, emails, shopping, feeding, housekeeping, homework, bedtime, worrying about your job or children, about health or finances; you rush from thing to thing, multitasking, triple-timing, hoping to cover all the bases, avoiding anything that might disrupt your schedule or routine. At times, you get so caught up in the tempo and pattern, the predictable tap, tap, tap of each day, that there is no time to notice the neighbors had moved out, the wind had scattered some papers off the window ledge, your son had left his certificate award on your night table, and tonight the moon would look like the milky residue floating inside an enormous cereal bowl. You wonder when have you become the person who notices so little!? Allow yourself a few brief moments of the day to notice a little; to tap into the life around you. Welcome to the CC – Community Circular; a cc to the Luach Hatzibur. As the only women’s daily forum, the CC will keep you informed with daily news updates, events and simchas, a dose of daily inspiration, recipes, sales and important messages; as well as a platform to discuss pertinent issues and concerns. Sit back, relax and start your day with your daily CC – and of course, a cup of coffee too! CC’S INSPIRATION CORNER By: Shaindy Perl Defining Our Goals I once came across a list of goals I’d set for myself several years earlier. I'd read an article about the power of written goals and followed the author's advice to write a list of long-term and short-term goals. As I scanned the paper, I was taken aback to see that, one by one, I had really achieved the goals I’d set. “Wow, this thing really works,” I thought. Some people might say, “I have a list of goals in my head.” However, defining our goals clearly and writing them down brings clarity and inspires ambition. One cannot compare a vague desire to “own a house one day” or “take a hair styling course when life isn’t so hectic” to actually writing down these goals on paper. Doing so makes the dream seem possible and encourages one to think how to make it happen. So grab a pen and paper. Consider your goals. Write them down. Think what steps you can take to bring you closer to achieving them. And I hope you find your list one day and are filled with a sense of wonder and achievement as you realize that, with Hashem’s help, you have actually made those dreams come true. “Goals that are not written down are just wishes.” Shalom Bayis 6 Personal Growth Setting Goals C to C the CC Daily! CUBE CUBE Instructions: Use the numbers 1-4 to fill in each cube. The heavily outlined cubes in each grid are called “cages”. In the upper left corner of each cage, there is a “target number”, and a math operation (+, -, x, ÷). Fill each cube of a cage with a number. The numbers in each cage must combine, in any order, using only that cage’s math operation – to form that cage’s target number. Cages with just one cube should be filled in with that cage’s top corner number. Do not repeat a number in any row or column. You can repeat a number within a cage, as long as those repeated numbers are not in the same row or column.
