(pages 47-125 are only needed for #133) burda 1 style magazine patterns FAQ Materials Duchesse with crosswise stretch Step 1 — Preparation Trace the pattern pieces from the pattern sheet. Follow lines and details for style 132. The marking for the strap joining on piece 3 is for size 44. For the other sizes, mark the strap joining accordingly. The pleat arrows on the back edge of piece 10 are marked for size 44. For the other sizes, mark the pleat arrows accordingly. Seam and hem allowances: Seams and edges 1.5 cm (5/8 in), bust piece seams and lower edge of bust piece 1 cm (3/8 in), curved front joining edges 1 cm (3/8 in), hem 4 cm (15/8 ins). Interface facings and outer bust pieces with G 785; interface inner bust pieces with H 608. Iron Vilene Bias Tape/stay tape to wrong side of upper back edges and curved upper edges of fronts. Step 3 — Vent Stitch centre back seam, leaving vent open at bottom. Press seam allowances open and press left vent facing to inside. Lay right underlap toward left back. To avoid needing to clip, press under allowance of right back above vent, tapering it. Hem vertical edge of underlap narrowly. Topstitch left centre back diagonally at top of vent as marked, catching underlap. Step 4 — Front and back Stitch front and back section seams. Press seam allowances open. Step 5 — Bust pieces Stitch centre lower bust pieces to side lower bust pieces. Press seam allowances open. Stitch upper bust pieces to lower bust pieces. Press seam allowances open. Stitch lower edge of outer bust pieces to front, from seam number 5 to corner. Clip seam allowances of front into corners. Stitch front edge of bust pieces to front, from corner to marked upper seam line. Stitch inner bust pieces to front neck facing as described. Step 6 — Zip Stitch right side seam. Sew invisible zip to left opening edges, see the â— Helpful Hintâ— on page 9. Stitch left side seam from lower edge to zip. Stitch right side seam of facing (as mirror image of dress seam). Step 7 — Strap For each strap, lay two pieces together, right sides facing. Stitch long edges together. Turn straps right side out. Fold pleats in direction of arrows and baste. Baste front strap ends to outer bust pieces as marked on pattern. Step 8 — Face upper edge of dress Pin facing (with inner bust pieces) right sides together with neck edge of dress. At zip opening, turn facing back, approx. 5 mm (3/16 in) before edge of opening, and pin to upper edge. Turn allowances of dress on opening edges to outside and pin to neck edge, over facing. Stitch along neck edge, catching straps in front and leaving seam open in back to insert straps between each seam mark and section seam. Turn facing and allowances on side opening edges to inside. Press edges. Insert straps into openings in seam on back and pin in place. Try on dress to determine correct strap length. Then stitch seam closed, first turning facing out again. Now turn facing to inside and sew to zip tapes. Pin joining seams of bust pieces together exactly. Turn facing up and sew seam allowance together, close to seam. Turn facing down again. Sew lower edge of 3 facing to seams. Step 9 — Hem At hem edge, open back vent facing again. Press hem allowance to inside and sew in place by hand.
