Directions
1.For machine piecing, trace all pattern pieces on the wrong side of fabrics and
cut out. Seam allowances are included on pattern pieces. For hand piecing,
make templates using adshed lines on pattern pieces and trace templates on
wrong side of fabrics. Add 1⁄4" seam allowances all around and cut out.
2. Trace snowman’s nose, bird, bird’s beak and brid’s hat on right side of
fabric. Eye 1⁄4" seam allowances all around and cut out.
3. Piece block following the piecing diagram below. Form rows and then join
the rows. In Row 1 piece B and C together, then add A on each side. In Row
7, piece O-P-P-P-O together, add N on top and sew an M piece to each side
of that unit.
4. Applique in the following order: bird’s beak, bird, bird’s hat, and
snowman’s nose.
5. Embroider snowman’s eyebrows and mouth with a stem stitch using two
strands of floss. Work bird’s cheek and wing with a stem stitch using one
strand. Create bird’s eye with a French knot using two strands of floss. Sew
buttons for eyes and on vest.
6. Trace pattern for arms onto block. Using three strands of floss, outline
arms with a stem stitch, and fill in the shape with a satin stitch

Embroidery Floss — snowman’s arms, eyebrows,
mouth; bird’s eye, cheek, wing, hatband.
Optional: Ribbon for bowtie — 1⁄4 yard
