Getting involved in CTA
Have you been playing in the Coeur d’Alene Tennis Association for a
few years now? Enjoy getting to meet new people, play a little
competitive tennis and occasionally win a few matches? Then you are
exactly who we’re looking for. We need a voice, your voice to be
exact. This tennis league is run by volunteers who love tennis and
want to keep it fun. At the end of this year, the terms of a few of the
current members will have expired and we need the next set of
inspired individuals to step in and take this league to the next level.
The commitment level is kept minimal, usually 4-6 meetings per
year. We will possibly be looking for some tech savvy people and an
accountant to help us keep the finances in line.
If you have any interest at all or want to know how you can help.
Please contact us at [email protected] or flag one of us down at
the kickoff party.

courts. Depending on the number of entrants, match play will begin
Friday evening or Saturday morning. Print your entry form today and
mark your calendars for June 12-14, 2015! Entry deadline June 8, 2015.
For more information please feel free to contact tournament coordinator
Kelley Aagesen ([email protected]) or Laura Triphahn

Michael Marceau Memorial Sportsmanship Award
By Lea Williams
If you played tennis with us last year, you were just as
shocked as we were to hear about the passing of our beloved
member Michael Marceau. We all remember Mike as the
quintessential sportsman, always gracious, positive, upbeat,
fair, a leader and a fun loving captain. He was a true lover of
the game and the camaraderie in the sport.
We wanted to do something as a community and so we
asked for donations so we could get a bench dedicated to him
and many of you responded generously, but after running into
logistical problems, we went another direction. With that
said, we are happy to announce the Michael Marceau
Memorial Sportsmanship Award. At the end of the season,
we will ask for nominations of individuals you feel deserve to
be awarded our new annual Sportsmanship Award in
memory of Mike. There will be a large trophy presented at
the annual championship match to the individual with their
name engraved and each year we will add a new name. The
trophy will be kept on display at the Peak in Hayden. We will
have more details on the nomination process during the kick
off party.
2015 CTA Kickoff Party
Left to Right: Lisa Hunt, Eric Burkholder, Roberta
Bishop, Dave Roth, Brady Tommerup and Lea Williams
We would like to cordially invite all
participants to the 2015 CTA Kickoff
Party. It will be held Monday, May 18th
at Peak Tennis in Hayden. We will be
providing food and drinks and possibly
a few tennis games for anyone who
wishes to participate. The most
important event of the evening will of
course be meeting your new
teammates, exchanging contact
information, meeting your captain and
most importantly, coming up with a
strategy to lay a beat down on all of
the other teams.
This event will be starting around 6PM
so please come join us for an hour or
two of fun and socializing.

Head to Head Tennis
By Brady Tommerup
After a few years of donating his time to our organization, Kim Golden
is stepping down as the Head to Head coordinator. We would like to
thank Kim for all of his efforts and look forward to seeing him on the
other side of the net.
With that said, we do not have a replacement for Kim and would like
to ask the membership if anyone has any interest in organizing this
league. We are hoping to get someone in there that has played head
to head before and would be willing to donate a few hours of their
time this summer. Please let us know at [email protected].

Clean Up Items:
-
If you have any suggestions on food for the end of the season BBQ, please email us and
share your ideas. We are looking for someone to cater this year’s event and thought we
would get ideas from the membership.
-
As usual, we could use a few good men/women to help us captain teams this year. If you
are interested and or would be willing to pitch in this year, please note it on your
registration forms. Commitment level usually is a few emails/reminders per week and the
occasional practice session.
Junior League
By David Roth
The 2014 Junior Tennis League had forty participants from age
12 to age 18. The season was six weeks, culminating in the
annual year end tournament. Bracket winners received trophies
as well as all participants in the league received T-shirts.
Thanks to the parents of the league members for getting their
children out to their matches, dealing with rain delays, and
helping to coordinate team matches! Last year we were able to
schedule Eileen Johnson to give a couple tennis clinics and
intend to do the same this year. Looking forward to seeing you
on the courts!
