General Information
Hirers please note that the interests of staff and students are our first priority.
Equipment that is brought in by hirers prior to any booking will be at the owner’s risk.
Promotion and Advertising
The School’s Board of Trustees requires all hirers to refer to the venue as:
Bruce Ritchie Performing Arts Centre, Massey High School, 274 Don Buck Rd, Massey, in all
event advertising and promotion.
Health and Safety
All users must abide by the School’s Health and Safety Policies and Procedures.
A copy of the manual is available upon request.
Fire Alarm
At least 2 Ushers are to be present for the period of a performance to direct patrons to the
meeting place, in the unlikely event of a fire or other emergency.
It is the responsibility of the Hirer to help ensure the safety of the patrons.
A diagram of the Performing Arts Centre Evacuation Plan will be supplied.
Stage Lighting and Sound
Stage Lighting is available. Users are required to use the school’s lighting and sound technician.
Parking
Hirers will provide at least two parking attendants and ensure that production members and
audiences are made aware of parking and non-parking areas. High viz jackets are available for
loan. A diagram of the school grounds will be supplied with your Casual Use Agreement.
Hirers should ensure that all parking allows the access of emergency vehicles at all times.
Security
The school’s contracted security guards must be provided for all events outside school hours.

Under the regulations of noise limits in the District Plan, please ensure the hours stated above are
strictly adhered to. School grounds MUST be cleared of people by 11pm Monday to Saturday
and 10pm on a Sunday.
The Hirer shall:
Not permit any food or drink to be taken into the Theatre Auditorium or onto the stage.
Not permit smoking in the Bruce Ritchie Performing Arts Centre and foyer, any school
building or anywhere within school grounds.

Staffing Requirements:
Parking & Ushers to be supplied by hirer
Costs for sound and lighting Technician will be added to the hire charges, along with cleaners,
security and Facility Manager (onsite supervision). These costs are non-negotiable.
Theatre hire rates are varied depending on the purpose of your booking and time required.
A deposit of $150.00 is required to confirm your booking.
A bond of $500.00 is also required for each booking and is fully refundable if the venue hire is
left in its original condition. Note: Four weeks’ notice of cancellation/rebooking is required
or your deposit will not be refunded.
Please sign and return the completed Hire Application to register your booking. Upon receipt of
your deposit, a CASUAL USE AGREEMENT will be sent for your signature and needs to be
returned prior to your booking, along with your bond. Your final invoice will be sent after the
event and will be payable within 7 days of receipt. Your bond will be refunded after all costs
have been settled.

When you are hiring the Performing Arts Centre, you must start each show with
the following: (this is a guideline only)
House Rules:
1. Welcome everyone
2. Remind patrons that no eating or drinking is allowed in the Centre
3. Toilet facilities are located in the foyer – turn left as you exit through the
main doors
4. No smoking in the Performing Arts Centre or in any part of the school
grounds or buildings
5. Please turn your cell phones off
6. No unauthorised photography or recording of any sort (if applicable)
7. Advise patrons – that in the unlikely event of a fire:
 The left hand side of the audience exits out on the left hand side
 The right hand side of the audience exits out on the right hand side
and to make their way to the designated assembly areas:
Carpark in front of the Terry Smythe Gym
Carpark in front of drama classes/hall
Each hirer must appoint at least 2 ushers (with torches) to assist patrons with
seating, help the elderly if necessary and to stop people bringing food and drink
into the Bruce Ritchie Performing Arts Centre.
