Thirtieth Sunday
Dear Friends,
On this Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus once again found himself being
tested by the Pharisees. This time he was asked to name the greatest law. He does so, but
immediately invokes its complement, placing love of God and love of neighbor on equal
footing. Jesus’ point is that you cannot have one without the other. Our challenge this
week is to examine how our love of God is reflected in our love for neighbor.
Next Saturday is November 1st, the Solemnity of All Saints. Although this is still a
Holyday, the bishops of our country suspended the obligation to attend Mass on Saturday.
Therefore, we will celebrate Mass in church that day at 9 AM. All are most welcome to attend
and pray for the intercession of all the saints of the church.
Next Saturday Vigil and Sunday, we will celebrate the Commemoration of All Souls. At the
11 AM Mass we will pray in particular for all of our parishioners who died since last year’s
celebration. We will also remember these souls and the souls of all your loved ones that you
submit to us throughout the month of November, the month of the Holy Souls. May they all rest in
the peace of Christ!

Today at the 11 AM Mass we welcome back FATHER STEVEN MILLS from Lincoln
Nebraska! We are grateful for his presence with us and delight in his priestly ministry among us
today!
Our parish campaign “BUILDING ON OUR FAITH...EXPANDING OUR LEGACY”
continues. All parishioners were requested to make a pledge and contribution to this worthy
project by November 1st. If you have already made this commitment, thank you! If you have not, there is
still time to consider your participation. This expansion and renovation effort has the needs of all

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL - In this Sunday’s Gospel
we find the truth that loving God isn’t merely a
matter of fervor in our hearts, but that it must
be expressed in doing good for the sake of
others.
This month, through your gifts, the Society

BABY BOTTLE CAMPAIGN- Our Teen Ministry with

Archbishop’s Day: On Friday, October
31st, every school in the Archdiocese will
be closed so that every teacher and administrator may
gather at the Philadelphia Convention Center for
Archbishop’s Day.
CARES: This year, we will offer CARES for families who
may need child care on half days. If you would like your
child/ren to remain for CARES on Wednesday afternoon,
the rates are $20.00 for one child or $40.00 for 2 or more
children. If you will be using the CARES program for
next Wednesday’s early dismissal, please notify the school
by Friday so that adequate staffing may be arranged.
Our Fall PREP and SJR school students were asked to

Bishop John McIntyre who will be confirming our 6th

this since it is usually the Bishop asking them

FOCUS ON FAITH
THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Exodus 22: 20-26; 1 Thessalonians 1:5-19; Matthew 22:34-40
Jesus’ words about loving as the greatest commandment aren’t empty ones, for
sure. This is exactly what he did—-he loved with his all to the extent that he
gave his life for us. Did you ever notice that when we someone reaches out to us
in our need, we then try to be more responsive to others in need? When
someone loves us deeply, we learn to love others more deeply. We learn to live
the greatest commandment—-love—from the greatest teacher: Jesus.
What struggles do you face when it comes to loving God?

What struggles do you face when it comes to loving yourself?
Ten Themes for the World Meeting of Families — Part I
LOVE IS OUR MISSION — THE FAMILY FULLY ALIVE
1.Created for Joy — We are more than an accident of evolution. We are greater than the sum of our biology. God
exists. He is good. He loves us. He made us in his image to share in his joy. He takes an active hand in our
lives. He sent his only Son to restore our dignity and lead us home to him.
2.The Mission of Love —God works through us. We have a mission. We are in the world for a purpose — to
receive God’s love and to show God’s love to others. God seeks to heal a broken universe. He asks us to be his
witnesses and helpers in that work.
3.The Meaning of Human Sexuality —The tangible, earthly, corporeal world is more than inert matter or modeling clay for the human will. Creation is sacred. It has sacramental meaning. It reflects God’s glory. That includes our bodies. Our sexuality has the power to procreate, and shares in the dignity of being created in the
image of God. We need to live accordingly.
4.Two Become One—We are not made to be alone. Human beings need and complete each other. Friendship and
community satisfy that longing with bonds of common interest and love. Marriage is a uniquely intimate form
of friendship that calls a man and a woman to love each other in the manner of God’s covenant.
Marriage
is a Sacrament. Married love is fruitful and offered without reservation. This love is in the image of Jesus’s
faithfulness to the Church.
5.Creating the Future—Marriage is meant to be fertile and welcome new life. Children shape the future, just as
they themselves are shaped in their families. Without children, there can be no future. Children reared with
love and guidance are the foundation for a loving future.
Wounded children portend a wounded future. Families are
the bedrock for all larger communities. Families are
domestic churches, places where parents help children discover that God loves them and has a plan for each child’s
life.

It's a nation gone mad. It seems that every crackpot
group with an agenda are making claims to alleged
rights and are being granted their claims by the courts
or by Congress. The only legitimate Constitutional
right is the right to life and it is being suppressed and

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Adoration - Each Monday (except Summer & National
Holidays) after the 9 am Mass, with simple Reposition (No
Benediction) at 4 pm. At 3 pm the Divine Mercy Chaplet is
recited.
SAFE ENVIRONMENT PROGRAM
All parish staff and volunteers who have regular contact
with young people must attend a Protecting God’s Children
Awareness Session. In addition background checks must be
updated every 5 years. Links to background checks can be

the Child and Youth Protection Site. If you have not
completed your background checks and the class YOU
