During this Year of Consecrated Life, we give you thanks for these courageous witnesses of Faith and models of inspiration. Their pursuit of holy lives teaches us to make a more perfect offering of ourselves to you. Continue to enrich your Church by calling forth sons and daughters who, having found the pearl of great price, treasure the Kingdom of Heaven above all things. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Every Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Jesus is available for all to come and visit with him in the Most Blessed Sacrament at the daily Mass chapel. We are in need of parishioners to commit to one hour of their time to spend in prayer with Jesus so that he will not be left alone, as he was in the garden of Gethsemane. Please prayerfully consider offering one hour each Tuesday, or whatever your schedule will allow each month, for this wonderful grace by contacting Mike Altschuler at [email protected] or 610-496-6464 to volunteer your time. In good times, tithing helps you remember that God is the source of all blessings, and it allows you to demonstrate your gratitude for His care. In hard times, tithing motivates you to remember God’s faithfulness, and enables you to demonstrate trust in God to provide for all of our needs. When you tithe you enable those whom God has called to serve as pastors, ministry personnel, band parish leadership to faithfully build up the church accomplishing the works of Christ in our parish! “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Jesus Acts 20:35 Stop back for coffee, bagels, egg rolls, & donuts! We look forward to seeing you in Meeting Rooms C & D after the 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Masses or before the 12 p.m. Mass on Sundays. I recall the days when I had first converted into the Catholic Church. I was 37 years old, married with two children, and really excited to have received my first communion. But I felt like I really needed to stay plugged in with the friends my wife and I had made in the church. I felt that if I were to just go to Mass on Sundays with no further fellowship, that my faith might become nothing more than just a mundane one day a week thought. The RCIA group had nourished my heart and my curiosity. I had been the recipient of so many gems – “God-sightings”– where the Catholic Church showed itself as a genuine, loving, faith-filled mission church. I began to realize that when we live out our faith, we embark on a life-long journey with a combination of both revelations and setbacks. Life is not a static dimension with a set of beliefs to be filed away in a folder but rather an organism that begs of constant conversion. We at St. Peter Parish are such a wonderful community with so much energy and so many warm smiles, so perhaps now is the time to ask yourself a question: Am I engaged with St. Peter Parish? Have I been able to make time to nourish my faith and my family’s faith by living out the Gospel? We believe that God will work in you and work through you: we expect it. Jesus was the epitome of “welcome” but as he welcomed, so too he expected a lot. And if we look at the ways we can be Christ-like, we could look at 5 areas: Worship, Grow, Serve, Connect, and Give: Worship – attend Sunday Services. Grow – be a disciple and commit to at least one program of faith formation per year. Serve – serve the parish by being involved in at least one ministry per year. Connect – commit to sharing faith in a group such as King’s Men, First Saturday, Christ-Life, or one of the many others we have. “Team Hoagie 2015” Thanks to this group of Confirmation candidates and their parents for making the hoagies and thanks to all who ordered and sold hoagies! This effort benefits our Parish Vacation Bible Camp. Give – give to build, maintain, and minister to the entire community. More to come in future columns – thanks so much! Deacon Todd Page 3 - 0146 Worship Commission READINGS FOR FEBRUARY 7 & FEBRUARY 8 First Reading Job 7: 1 - 4, 6 - 7 Job spoke, saying: Is not man’s life on earth a drudgery? Are not his days those of hirelings? He is a slave who longs for the shade, a hireling who waits for his wages. So I have been assigned months of misery, and troubled nights have been allotted to me. If in bed I say, “When shall I arise?” then the night drags on; I am filled with restlessness until the dawn. My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle; they come to an end without hope. Remember that my life is like the wind; I shall not see happiness again. Second Reading Corinthians 9: 16 - 19, 22 - 23 Brothers and sisters: If I preach the gospel, this is no reason for me to boast, for an obligation has been imposed on me, and woe to me if I do not preach it! If I do so willingly, I have a recompense, but if unwillingly, then I have been entrusted with a stewardship. What then is my recompense? That, when I preach, I offer the gospel free of charge so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. Although I am free in regard to all, I have made myself a slave to all so as to win over as many as possible. To the weak I became weak, to win over the weak. I have become all things to all, to save at least some. All this I do for the sake of the gospel, so that I too may have a share in it. Gospel Mark 1: 29 - 31 On leaving the synagogue Jesus entered the house of Simon and Andrew with James and John. Simon’s motherin-law lay sick with a fever. They immediately told him about her. He approached, grasped her hand, and helped her up. Then the fever left her and she waited on them. When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed. Simon and those who were with him pursued him and on finding him said, “Everyone is looking for you.” He told them, “Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also. For this purpose have I come.” So he went into their synagogues, preaching and driving out demons throughout the whole of Galilee. So please come to our Friday 7 p.m. Stations of the Cross during Lent (bulletin has dates) and bring a soup (no meat) or salad to share afterwards. Our first theme (February 20th) from the Love is our Mission book is entitled, “Creating the Future,” and we will jump high, deep, and wide into some fun brainstorming about FAMILY.
