What causes Acne?
Acne is a condition of the sebaceous hair
follicle. The hair follicles, or pores, in your
skin contain sebaceous glands. These glands
make sebum, which is an oil that lubricates
hair and skin. Normally, sebum travels through
the hair follicle to the skin surface. With acne,
sebum is trapped, clogging the follicle.
Bacteria that seems to cause most acnes is
called Propionibacterium acnes (P.acnes)
and is present in everybody’s skin, usually
lodged in the hair follicle. The clogged follicle
becomes a breeding ground for bacteria.
When the sebaceous gland gets clogged, and
sebum builds up inside the follicle, P. acnes
multiply rapidly resulting in acne.
Why is a combination of blue and red light
used?
Research has shown that blue light kills P.
acnes bacteria while red light helps reduce
inflammation. How often should I use the product?
We recommend a daily treatment of 8½
minutes per treatment area.
When will I see results?
You should see a positive change within 4
weeks. Daily treatment is recommended for
8–12 weeks. After this, use in line with any
continued occurrence or new outbreaks.
Yes, but be careful to avoid looking directly at the
LEDs. If you glance accidentally at the LEDs, no
harm will occur. We recommend keeping your
eyes closed during treatment to reduce the effects
of glare. If you suffer with any eye disorders then
please consult a specialist before use.

mains supply by unplugging the power
adapter. Please ensure that the power
adapter is positioned so that it is easily

Regardless of age, acne can be a
problem. The Rio SKINCLEAR LIGHT
uses blue and red light technology
to help manage mild to moderate
acne. The blue light kills the primary
bacteria involved in acne, (P. acnes)
while the red spectrum light helps
reduce inflammation.
C OMPONENT S
• NOT suitable for people who are photosensitive
or who have photosensitive skin. Common
medications can cause photosensitivity so if
you are on any medication you should check for
photosensitivity warnings and if in any doubt
consult your doctor.
Before using for the first time, remove the light
display label from the treatment head.
The battery level indicator lights around the ON/
OFF button show the status of the battery. One
light is low, four is fully charged.
STEP 1
Thoroughly cleanse your face.
Gently place the treatment
head onto the skin.
Note: When the unit is fully charged it will
automatically enter a sleep mode and the
battery level indicator lights will go out.

To start the treatment, briefly
press and hold the ON/OFF
button until the treatment
lights illuminate.
