POSITION DESCRIPTION – CLUB MANAGER
1.
Overall Purpose of Position
This is a senior management role and the primary purpose is to professionally, effectively and
efficiently manage all of the club business activities including maximisation of revenue returns,
cost management, event management, customer service, racing operations, venue
management, non-racing function and events, food & beverage operations, business
responsibility for corporate and race day packages, membership development and member
services.
The Club Manager will perform the role of Secretary under the rules of Racing for the Club, in
respect to the conducting of race meetings.

Key Actions and Activities
The general management of the Clubs’ affairs in accordance with policy and direction of the
Committee and the Club Manager will deliver or oversee the delivery of,
Statutory and Affiliate Responsibilities
• Ensure the direction and control of the Clubs’ business through the development and
implementation of Strategic Business Plans and Budgets.
• Ensure effective systems of reporting, evaluation and communication to the BRC
Committee, Members and Stakeholders
• Facilitate the provision of timely information to the CRV appointed Regional Services
Manager in consideration of the clubs’ business activities
• Ensure the timely and accurate flow of financial and non-financial information to and
from the Regional Finance Centre and CRV in accordance with annual business cycle
requirements
• Ensure each of the club’s compliance with state and federal legislative requirements
(e.g. OH&S, Associations Incorporations Acts, Liquor Licensing, etc.)
• Exploring 3rd party funding opportunities.
Human Resource Management
• Manage the recruitment, training, deployment and appraisal of staff to deliver the
Clubs’ objectives.
• Liaising with all external service providers, subcontractors and labour hire personnel
• Promotion of an effective, motivated workforce.
• Ensure all staff are clearly aware of their duties and responsibilities.
Communication
• Develop and monitor communication between all areas of the Clubs’ operations to
facilitate positive relations in a multi location and multi stakeholder environment.
• Liaise with RVL and CRV to achieve streamlined and timely communication systems.
• Liaison with all external and internal racing industry stakeholders including RVL/CRV
communications interface
• Representation on behalf of the BRC at RVL & CRV meetings for input at Racing
Industry level
• Develop and administer a public relations and communications program to enhance
internal and external understanding of BRC’s objectives and achievements.
Racing Operations
• Oversee the successful conduct of meetings in accordance with the standards required
by RVL and CRV.
• Effective liaison with industry participants including trainers, owners and jockeys
Business Development
• Ensure the maximisation of revenue returns from the sale of race-day products such as
race sponsorship, packages, food & beverage and merchandise.
• Develop, direct and control marketing business strategies and activities of BRC to
assist in the promotion of race day events and achievement of attendance targets.
• Bar operations including oversee stocktake & purchasing responsible & liquor licensing
• Develop & grow year round sponsorship partnerships
• Develop & grow the Clubs’ membership base.
• Maximise the margins from all income streams such as Food, Beverage, Merchandise
and the like.
• Grow the function centre business and revenue streams.
Marketing & Promotion
• Develop, direct and control marketing business strategies and activities of BRC to
assist in the promotion of race day events and achievement of attendance targets.
• PR & Media liaison
• Assist with delivery of marketing strategy
• Advertising & Brand management
• Manage the promotion of the Grandview Function Centre
• Event management duties for both raceday and non-raceday events:
o Event planning (including booking & logistics)
o Event setup
o Event follow-up / review
Management of Tracks and Facilities
• Oversee the performance of the Track Manager & Staff to ensure business objectives
are achieved.
• Develop and oversee the maintenance and presentation of the racecourse in
compliance with Industry standards.
• Oversee the sustained development of facilities to support the Clubs’ racing
operations.
• Co-ordinate the effective and efficient management of the Clubs’ training facilities
including liaison with trainers and BRC committee of management.
• Ensuring site facilities are appropriately secured at all times, including liaising with
external security firms.
Club Profile
• Promote programs which establish the Club as a significant contributor to the economy
of the region.
• Develop the positive image of racing through positive contacts with community and
local government groups.
Business Review and Improvement
• In conjunction with the Club finance team, perform a quarterly review of each KPI
against budget highlighting where improvements may be made.
Other Activities (as required)
• Produce reports for the CRV Regional Services Manager as requested
• Other duties that could reasonably be expected from such a position.
