Boilermaker Invitational
Danny Masrin (Bradley) - Masrin finished third
at the 43rd annual Beu/Mussatto Invitational
in Macomb, Ill., and helped the Bradley men’s
golf team to a second-place finish. After an
opening-round 72, Masrin had a pair of 2-over
74’s at the par-72 Harry Mussatto Golf Course
to finish one shot back of the co-medalists.
Masrin, who finished in the top five of a tournament for the second straight outing moved
into third in school history for career sub-80
rounds with 92 and needs two more to take
over second. He lowered his season stroke
average to a team-best 74.11, which would
rank as the third lowest in school history and
best since Andy Mickelson’s school record
73.28 average in 2002-03.
The Southern Illinois University men’s golf team
finished in 14th place out of 15 teams at Purdue’s
Boilermaker Invitational on Sunday. Playing one of
the nation’s toughest courses for a second-straight
week, SIU’s top finishers were Wade Thompson and
Drew Novara, who both tied for 36th place out of
81 golfers at 7-over par. Andrew Mitchell tied for
47th place, but matched Thompson by shooting
a 72 in the second round for the team’s lowest
18-hole score.
Hawkeye - Great River Entertainment
The Wichita State men’s golf team finished in fourth
place after shooting a 285 in the third round of
the Hawkeye-GRE Invitational. The Shockers shot
a 283 in the first round and a 290 in the second
round at the par-72 Finkbine Golf Course. Senior
Louis Cohen Boyer shot a 6-under par 66 in the
first round, a 7-under par 65 in the second round
and a 3-under par 69 in the third round to claim
the tournament title. His second round score ties
as his career-best and his 54-hole score of 200
beats his previous best of 206, which he had at
the Desert Shootout this spring. It is his first career
win and the 23rd top-10 finish of his career. It is
also the first time he shot three rounds in the 60s
in a single tournament. Sophomore Grant Bennett
finished tied for 17th after shooting a 1-under par
71 in the first round, a 1-over par 73 in the second
round and a 1-over par 73 in the third round. It is
the 13th top-20 finish of his career.
