Missouri Valley Conference Announces Baseball Scholar-Athlete Teams
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Fourteen league baseball players have been named to the 2015 MVC Scholar-Athlete First team, including one unanimous selection, in
Illinois State's Jacob Hendren, as well as two student-athletes with perfect 4.00 GPAs, including Bradley's Drew Carlile and Southern Illinois' Ryan Sabo.
The scholar-athlete teams were voted on by the conference’s baseball sports information contacts and announced by the league office today.
Dallas Baptist earned the most first team selections, four, including one repeat honoree in Daniel Salters, as well as Patriot teammates Tagg Duce,
Camden Duzenack and Chane Lynch. Bradley (Elliot Ashbeck and Carlile), Illinois State (Paul DeJong and Hendren), Indiana State (Landon Curry and
Jeff Degano) and Missouri State (Dylan Becker and Sam Perez) each have two first team honorees, while Evansville's Kevin Kaczmarski rounds out the
first team selections.
Six of the 14 first team spots are held by graduating seniors, while six juniors and two sophomores complete the makeup of the first team.
All eight league schools are represented on the first team, with an additional nine student-athletes named to the honorable mention team. A total of 56
student-athletes were nominated for scholar-athlete honors.
The criteria for the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team voting parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average. Studentathletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institution and must have completed at least one full academic year at
their institution.
