Catawba pair leads Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selections
MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Catawba College junior Will Albertson and senior Craig Brooks were named the
Daktronics NCAA Division II Southeast Region Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year, respectively,
following the announcement of the All-Region teams May 15.
The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, the NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors
Association.
Albertson earned Player of the Year honors after leading the Indians (40-13) to the South Atlantic
Conference regular season championship with a 23-6 mark in conference play and the No. 1 seed in the
NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament.
The catcher from Sophia, North Carolina led all hitters in NCAA Division II with a .481 batting average.
Albertson finished second nationally in NCAA Division II as he drove in 87 runs for the Indians, which set
a new program record. He also set a new conference and program record with 25 home runs, which
ranked him third nationally in NCAA Division II.
Albertson is also third nationally in NCAA Division II with a .924 slugging percentage and is fourth in the
country with a .541 on-base percentage, which led the South Atlantic Conference.
Albertson was named the 2015 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and a first team AllConference selection. Albertson, a first team Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selection,
was also named first team NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region and the Southeast Region Player of the
Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Brooks earned region Pitcher of the Year honors for the second year in a row after serving as the ace of
the Catawba pitching staff.
The right-handed pitcher from Monroe, N.C. led Catawba with a 9-1 record on the mound and 143
strikeouts in 90 innings, including a seven inning no-hitter Feb. 23 against Brevard. Brooks, who made 13
starts in 15 appearances, registered a 1.60 earned run average and one save while limiting opposing
hitters to a .158 batting average.
Brooks is currently leading all NCAA Division II pitchers with his 143 strikeouts and an astounding rate of
14.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Brooks, the South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Year and first team All-Conference selection, is also
a first team Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selection. Brooks was also named first
team NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region and the Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year by the National
Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
All first team Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region selections, including Albertson and
Brooks, will be included on the ballot for All-America consideration. The Daktronics NCAA Division II AllAmerican teams will be announced Friday, May 22.
