For Immediate Release May 14, 2015 2015 Daktronics All-Midwest Region Team Newman and Colegate Named Player and Pitcher Of The Year Rolla, Mo. – Trevecca Nazarene’s Hunter Newman and Ohio Dominican’s Ryan Colegate headline the 2015 Daktronics, Inc. Baseball All-Midwest Region First Team. They were named the Midwest Region Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively, as selected by the region’s sports information directors. Newman, a junior third baseman from Chapmansboro, Tenn., was the Player of the Year in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. He hit .451 and led the Trojans and the G-MAC in batting average, home runs (18), runs batted in (77), slugging percentage (.877), on-base percentage (.558), total bases (171), walks (39) and tied for the lead in hit by pitches (13). His 18 home runs are 11th best in Division II. Newman is a three-time selection to the All-G-MAC team. He helped lead the Trojans to a 36-18 mark and the G-MAC regular and postseason championships. Colegate, a starting pitcher for the Panthers from Centerville, Ohio, made 13 appearances on the mound this season and was the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Pitcher of the Year. He is 9-1 with a 1.98 earned run average in 72 and two-thirds innings pitched and has struck out 57 batters while holding the opposition to a .214 batting average. Colegate has thrown three complete games and a shutout. He allowed more than one earned run in just two starts this spring and in a seven appearance stretch (six starts) between April 4 and May 2 yielded just five earned runs in 43.1 innings (1.04 ERA). All 16 first-team All-Region selections will now be placed on the national ballot for All-America Consideration. The All-America teams are scheduled to be released on Friday, May 22.
