Position: Summer [IN]STITUTE GSI – [IN]ARCH ADV: ED2
Instructor: Keith Plymale | 1 Position | 20 hours/week (50% time)
[IN]ARCH ADV is an intensive six-week (July 6-Aug 14, 2015), studio-based program designed to
further challenge students who already hold a degree in architecture. The program considers and
questions the nature of the 21st century city particularly with regards to environmental and cultural
factors. While studio work will address urban, formal, structural, and socio-cultural factors, students
will focus on a “deep green” approach, using ideas about natural resources, passive energy
strategies, material development, and active sustainable systems to generate form, program, and
tectonics.
We are hiring 1 GSI to assist the section instructor in leading [IN]ARCH ADV Studio and each
individually leading [IN]ARCH ADV Media. Instruction on freehand sketching, drafting, model
building, digital representation and sustainable building practices will teach students how to think
and communicate two and three-dimensional design ideas. The studio will culminate in a final
design review, where students will exhibit, present, and discuss their work with CED faculty,
graduate students and alumni.
The position is open to continuing graduate students who are in the Department of Architecture,
particularly those who have taught a course in representation.
The GSI position compensation will include a mandatory GSI meeting of curriculum development
with the instructor prior to the start of the Summer [IN]STITUTE. This date will be determined
before the end of the spring term.
The job duties designated below may be required of the Academic Student Employees:
• Attend lectures
• Instruction of sections/labs per week
• Preparation
• Hold office hours
• Evaluate student work
• Perform individual and/or group tutoring
• Class/faculty visits
• Maintain/submit student records
• Perform other tasks as assigned
Training and preparation dates will be determined prior to the end of the spring semester. GSI will
commit to the six week program beginning July 6- Aug 14, 2015 at 50% time. Salary is a step 1
Summer Sessions GSI and includes all scheduled activities per above.
