myStation (version 5.2.3) OverView
What is myStation?
myStation is a tool designed to enhance the patient and family experience during a hospital stay. It works through the TV in
the patient’s room. It provides site specific information, patient education, entertainment options in addition to the TV and
access to the patient’s demographic information, medications and allergies.
Step 1 – Getting Started – Accessing myStation
 Pillow Speaker
 Press the Power button to access myStation
 Press the arrow keys to navigate the menu items
 Press the Select button to select a menu item
 Wireless Keyboard
 Press the Power button and then the Mail (home) button to access myStation
 Use the arrow keys to navigate the menu items
 Press Enter to select a menu item
 OR use the mouse pad to navigate the menu items and use the left mouse key to double click on the item
to select it
Step 2 – Viewing the Start Up pages When myStation Opens the First Time
Language Preference Page: The first time the patient accesses myStation it asks what language they prefer. The default
is English but they can select another language if desired. The language selection only applies to the menu items but NOT
to the custom content or the patient education videos. The language choice will be reset to English when the patient is
discharged. If the patient is transferred they will need to select the preferred language again.
Introductory Video: After selecting the preferred language an introductory video plays that explains what myStation is and
how to use it. The video will only play the first time the patient is admitted or if they are transferred to another bed. The
introductory video will be available in the Education Library if the patient wants to view it again.
Step 3 – Selecting Menu Items from the Home Page
myStation opens to the Entertainment page which is the Home Page.
 The menu on the left shows selections for:
 TV
 Movies
 Music
 Games
 Internet
 The menu on the right shows icons for the TV, Hospital, My Care Plan and Settings.
TV icon – opens the Entertainment page which is the Home Page. The patient may select the TV icon to turn on
the TV or select an item from the menu on the left – TV, movies, music, games, or internet.

Hospital icon – opens the myHospital page which has menu selections for:
Hospital information – location specific
 Food choices
 Gift shops
 Hospitality services
 Pastoral care
 Patient rights
 Pharmacy information
 Parking
 Visiting hours and guidelines
Education Library – opens a menu with categories for Patient Education
 Shows current patient education videos specific to that location.
 When viewing patient education videos from the education library, exiting a video will take you back to the
top of the list for that category.
Featured Internet Sites
 Shows shortcuts to common internet favorites and helpful websites/
 Websites are filtered for appropriate content and cannot be added by the patient.
 myStation does not support Flash so patients will not be able to view programs such as Netflicks or You
Tube.
My Care Plan icon – opens the My Health page.
 The patient must enter a pin number (which is the patient’s date of birth). It must be in the following format:
MMDDYYYY with no hyphens or slashes.
The My Health page has menu selections for:
 Information – patient’s demographic information
 Medications – patient’s active home medications and prescriptions and inpatient medications for this visit
 Allergies – patient’s active allergies from PowerChart
Settings button – opens the Settings page which has menu selections for:
 Language – allows the patient to select a preferred language for the menu items
 NOTE: The language selection only applies to the menu items but NOT to the custom content (e.g. hospital
specific information) or the patient education videos.
 Theme – allows the patient to select a new theme when myStation opens
 Administration – allows the nurse to reboot the device without calling the Help Desk. The nurse will need to enter
a pin number (12345) and then press Enter on the keyboard or Select on the pillow speaker to activate the Select to
Restart Device button. It will take a few minutes for the device to restart.

Tips for the Wireless Keyboard and Pillow Speaker
 Channel Line Up –
 Keyboard – Turn on the TV. Press Enter on the keyboard to make the Channel Line Up appear. Use the
arrows to scroll through the list and press Enter to select the channel.
 Pillow Speaker – Turn on the TV. Press Select to make the Channel Line Up appear. Use the arrows to
scroll through the list. Press Select to select the channel.




Closed Captioning
 Closed captioning only works on the TV.
 Closed Captioning does NOT work on movies or Patient Education videos. However, some Patient
Education videos have closed captioning embedded in them so you may see it then. You cannot turn it off
if it is embedded in the patient education video.
 Closed Captioning must be supported by the program you are viewing or it won’t be visible. For example,
you may not see closed captioning on some TV advertisements.
Closed Captioning for the TV – Accessing It
 Keyboard – Turn the TV on. Press Enter on the keyboard. This will open a menu across the top of the TV.
Use the arrow keys scroll to the Settings menu item. Press Enter to turn Closed Captioning ON. Press
Escape to return to the TV. The closed captioning should now be turned on for the TV. To turn closed
captioning off follow the same directions except select Closed Captioning OFF from the menu.
 Pillow Speaker – Turn the TV on. Press Select on the pillow speaker. Use the arrow keys to scroll to the
Settings menu item. Press Select to turn Closed Captioning ON. Use the arrow keys to scroll over and
select Exit to return to the TV.
Escape button or Back button
 Keyboard – Escape takes you back to the previous screen. You may press Escape more than once if you
need to move back more than one screen. If the prompt on the screen asks you to press the Back button
you will need to press Escape on the keyboard.
 Pillow Speaker – The Back button on the pillow speaker returns you to the previous screen.
Games
 Patients at Women’s and Children’s Hospital on the Pediatric and Adolescent unit have access to a DVD
player and a Wii console. These units already have their gaming systems plugged into the appropriate
place (set top box). Turn on the TV and select channel 200 or 300 to use the Wii or DVD player.

Mail button or Menu button
 Keyboard – Press the mail button to return to the Home Page.
 Pillow Speaker – Press the Menu button to return to the Home Page.
Medication Leaflets – Accessing
 Keyboard – Press Enter to select a medication from the patient’s list of Inpatient, Discharge (prescriptions)
or Home (historical) medications. Use the mouse pad to navigate to the zoom in and zoom out buttons on
the task bar. Double click on the zoom in or zoom out icon to make the information on the screen larger or
smaller. Close the task bar by pressing Enter twice and use the arrow buttons to scroll up and down on the
screen. Press Escape to return to the previous screen.
 Pillow Speaker – Press Select to select a medication from the patient’s list of Inpatient, Discharge
(prescriptions) or Home (historical) medications. Press Select on the 4-way arrows on the task bar. This
action takes you to a Viewer screen. Wait a few seconds and this screen will disappear and then use the
arrow keys to scroll through the medication information. Press Back to return to the previous screen.
 Accessing Other Information on Multiple Pages – Use the same actions as in Medication Leaflets to
access other information that appears on multiple pages such as the Patient Rights information.
