From the President’s Desk
Hello from Arlo, Heartland President
This is a
busy time of
the year with
summer, family
reunions, vacations, and the
usual farm work
with crops, hay,
and cattle.
Our neighbor in town died and his sale was about three weeks ago.
He was the banker here in years past and collected antiques. He sent me
an advertisement from the “Antique Trader” about an R.S. Prussia sale
in St. Louis in 1981. Earlier he loaned me a book about Custard Glass
which I read. He also kept me updated about the additions to his collection. I now own the book and most of his Chrysanthemum Sprig Blue
Custard Glass. The point I want to make is R.S. Prussia is like other
antiques. You must have exposure to it. I first read about Custard Glass
45 years ago.
With the National Convention each year, we anticipate seeing old
friends and the beautiful R.S. Prussia on display and at auction.
Here is wishing happiness and health in your hunt for R.S. Prussia.
Arlo
On Display!
C.L. Riley’s mustard
pots are now on display in the Mustard
Museum in Middleton, Wisconsin. The
150 mustard pots
are housed in a nice
glass display case
along with a plaque
telling about Prussia
and its history.
Minutes from the April 2012 Meeting
Heartland R.S. Prussia General Meeting
Breakfast area, AmericInn, Elk Horn, Iowa
April 14, 2012, 10:00 a.m.
Arlo Stender, president, called the meeting to order with 20 members present. Arlo thanked Bob Gollmar for all his help with the hospitality room. Thank
you, Bob!
Cards were passed to sign for Tom Wilson, Lavonne Riley, Laura Heard,
and earlier for Jim Fisher. We wish these members could be with us.
Arlo invited everyone to their home on Sunday for lunch, visiting, and
viewing his R.S. Prussia collection.
Marcia Frese, secretary, read the secretary’s report. Approved. Faythe
Jaroska, treasurer, gave the treasurer’s report which is as follows:

Faythe received two paid memberships at this meeting. Faythe reported
20 paid memberships, 2 honorary memberships, and 5 complimentary ones.
Leslie Schultz will not accept payment for her room for being webmaster and
newsletter editor. She will only let us pay for expenses she has with these jobs.
Thank you, Leslie, for your generosity.
We had no old business.
For new business we discussed meeting in November at the LaQuinta in
Carter Lake (Omaha) again. C.L. Riley will call to make reservations for us as
well as reservations for our meal on Saturday night possibly at the Upstream in
the Old Market district.
Faythe was honored for 20 years as treasurer of the
Heartland R.S. Prussia Club. C.L. Riley presented her
with a beautiful tea set from the Tulowice factory in Poland where he and Lavonne visited on the R.S. Prussia
tour of Europe. Thank you, Faythe, for your many years
of service to the club!
C.L. also gave Marcia
Frese two beautiful R.S. Prussia cookie jars. Thank you,
C.L. and Lavonne, for being
so kind and generous to a very
thankful fellow R.S. Prussia
collector.
C.L. updated us on Mary
McCaslin, Tom Wilson, Dick Barrett, and Lois
Walden. Faythe told us about Dwight and Lisa Vanderpool, and Marcia told us about Laura Heard.
Leslie Schultz gave us a report on the Heartland website for November through March. The num-
Page 2
ber of new visitors has increased
each month with an average of 176
visitors per month. Leslie noted a
new search key to the Heartland
website of hidden image. Leslie
sends 15 newsletters by mail and
emails the newsletters to our other
members.
Harold and Joeleen Passow gave
a beautiful gold lily bowl with roses
as a door
prize. Steve
Frese was the
lucky winner
of this gorgeous bowl.
Joeleen is
a person to
email questions to for the International R.S. Prussia Club. She reported about one inquiry who had a
lion bowl which is very rare. We had
a discussion on auctions and also
discussed R.S. Prussia in general.
Arlo Stender presented a very
interesting program on E.S. Prussia
and passed many beautiful plates,
ewers, and dishes for us to view and
hold. He
also passed
around his
R.H. Caper’s book
on R.S.
Prussia. This
book was
also very
interesting
as several of us hadn’t seen one.
Arlo and Mary Stender and
Steve and Marica Frese provided
lunch followed by room viewing
of our smallest R.S. Prussia items
and R.S. Prussia cake plates. We
viewed an outstanding collection of
doll cups and saucers, also cream
and sugars, mustard pots, picture
frame, brooches, cup and saucer, pin
dishes, candle holder, demitasse set,
and beautiful and rare cake plates.

Name: Marvin & Kay Kraus
1. How many years have you been collecting R.S. Prussia? 36
2. Describe the piece of Prussia that started your R.S. Prussia collection.
Tell us how this happened. I think the first piece was an unmarked
cracker jar that we got with a china cabinet. The piece had damage and
was unmarked but we found out it was R.S. Prussia. Rose Ellen Beyer
repaired it later.
3. Tell us about a memorable piece or pieces of R.S. Prussia you have
added to your collection. Why are they memorable? The Summer Season
tankard we bought from a lady I met at heart rehab. She and I met and I
found out she wanted it to go to a collector and not to a dealer.
4. Tell us what your favorite pattern or patterns are. Pastel florals
5. Are there any R.S. Prussia pieces that you have wanted to add to your
collection but haven’t been able to? Tell us what they are. Tigers,

The April Heartland Meeting
was filled with good friends, good
times, good food, beautiful Prussia, and very interesting weather!
Thankfully, we all survived the
storms (at least no snow this time)
and took home good memories.
Now we are looking forward to
our November meeting and hoping that all of our Heartland members will be attending and that the
weather cooperates again.
This issue is filled with photos from Arlo’s presentation on
E.S. along with the room viewing
displays. Thanks to everyone for
bringing such wonderful pieces to
share.
Bon Bons--the much asked for recipe from the kitchen of Dorothy Huber
2 (15.25 to 18-ounce) packages of Oreo cookies
2 (8-ounce) packages of cream cheese
2 (20-ounce) packages of chocolate almond bark
Directions: Crush Oreos (I break them into the “Little Oscar” food processor and grind them up). Mix them with cream cheese until well combined. (The dough hook on the mixer works well). Chill mixture in the
refrigerator 30 to 45 minutes. Roll into balls. Chill again. Dip in melted
bark. Makes about 8 dozen. Store in the refrigerator.
Notes: If the balls get too soft to work with, refrigerate for a while again.
You can easily make only a “half batch” with the same results.
For variations: use mint Oreos and white almond bark OR for really rich & creamy Bon Bons, use 1 pkg of regular Oreos and 1 pkg of
DoubleStuf Oreos. Yummy!
