Ribbon Rapids, for those who know K-Country, is
the first half of the Ribbon Falls trail. The trail
leaves the parking area at the base of Mt. Allan
and meanders along Ribbon Creek, mainly within
the trees until we reach the rapids next to the
remnants of an old logging camp. Aside from the
noise of the rapids, it’s a quiet spot for a picnic
and reflection on today’s parable.
What to bring – minimum 1 litre of water, lunch,
comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sun glasses, sun
tan lotion and bug spray and of course, ambition!

Creek turnoff.
It’s a gentle walk, considerable fallen trees due to
past storms and high runoffs. The trail, mainly
through trees with a clearing in the distance,
culminates at a waterfall, a great place for lunch
and reflection on today’s parable.

Rated – beginners, easy
Study – The Parable of Sparrows & Hairs
Read Ahead – Matthew 10:29-31
Near Exshaw on the TransCanada Highway, this
hike is a favourite of new and experienced hikers
alike. It winds along an old creek bed, amid
petroglyphs of Alberta’s First Nations (although
your hiking guide has never seen them), to a
waterfall.
We’ll stop at the falls for lunch and carry on just a
little further into the meadow area, hoping to find
some mountain flowers and to get a vista glimpse
of Heart Mountain to the south.
What to bring – minimum 1 litre of water, lunch,
comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sun glasses, sun
tan lotion and bug spray and of course, ambition!

PLAINS OF SIX GLACIERS
Length – approximately 10 kilometers
Hiking Time – 5 hours plus lunch break
Terrain – gradual incline, switchback near end
Rated – beginners, moderate (given our typical
hikes, stamina is paramount)
Study – The Parable of Blind Leaders
Read Ahead – Matthew 15:14
Oh boy! Here we go to the gem of the Canadian
Rockies and likely the most photographed spot in
the world … we’re going to Lake Louise! Our
destination is at the horizon at the far end of the
lake, that’s the Victoria Glacier and the Plains of
Six Glaciers. There is a tea house there (not to be
confused with the one at Lake Agnes).
The trail follows the shore of Lake Louise … that
may be long enough for some and that’s fine, just
let the others know that you’ll meet us later. At
the fan, the trail starts a gentle incline following
the run off from the glaciers to the tea house.
It’s the longest hike offered this summer and all
you need is stick-to-it-iveness and stamina. The
view at the glacier is well worth the endurance.
What to bring – minimum 2 litres of water,
lunch, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sun
glasses, sun tan lotion and bug spray and of
course, ambition!
Thanks! – to those who provide transportation
for our hikes … your contribution is greatly
appreciated. Driving time from Calgary to the
Trail Head is approximately 2 hours; passengers,
please consider helping the driver out with a
small donation for gas. Also for this event, a
Parks Canada pass is required!
Saturday, September 12th
FISH CREEK PARK
Length – approximately 4-5 kilometers
Hiking Time – 2 hours PLUS a wind-up
Terrain – rolling
Rated – beginners, easy
Study – Parable of the Fig Tree
Read Ahead – Matthew 24:29-36
This is where Parables in the Park started and every
year, we make a return to Canada’s largest urban
park! Many of us know it well as it is a favourite spot
for many of walkers and bike riders.
What to bring – minimum 1 litre of water, lunch,
comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sun glasses, sun tan
lotion and bug spray and of course, ambition!
Following our hike, we will gather at a
picnic site near the Elbow Drive
bus loop for lunch.
The congregation is invited to come and
celebrate the end of our hiking season …
bring a bag lunch, lawn chairs and
hang out with the hikers!
