Saturday, August 22nd PLAINS OF SIX GLACIERS Length – approximately 10 kilometers Hiking Time – 5 hours plus lunch break Terrain – gradual incline, switchback near end Rated – beginners, moderate (given our typical hikes, stamina is paramount) Study – The Parable of Blind Leaders Read Ahead – Matthew 15:14 Oh boy! Here we go to the gem of the Canadian Rockies and likely the most photographed spot in the world … we’re going to Lake Louise! Our destination is at the horizon at the far end of the lake, that’s the Victoria Glacier and the Plains of Six Glaciers. There is a tea house there (not to be confused with the one at Lake Agnes). The trail follows the shore of Lake Louise … that may be long enough for some and that’s fine, just let the others know that you’ll meet us later. At the fan, the trail starts a gentle incline following the run off from the glaciers to the tea house. It’s the longest hike offered this summer and all you need is stick-to-it-iveness and stamina. The view at the glacier is well worth the endurance. What to bring – minimum 2 litres of water, lunch, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sun glasses, sun tan lotion and bug spray and of course, ambition! Thanks! – to those who provide transportation for our hikes … your contribution is greatly appreciated. Driving time from Calgary to the Trail Head is approximately 2 hours; passengers, please consider helping the driver out with a small donation for gas.
