TECHNOLOGY DESCRIPTION: Development of composite hydrogel scrapers to clean the inside of the cavity of pipelines "Institute of Polymer Materials and Technologies" Background and market demand The main objective of the project is to provide flexible and mechanically strong hybrid organic-inorganic composite materials for further use in the oil industry as a cleaning "scraper" of the inner cavity of the pipeline. Expected results: the ability of the scraper to freely pass through pipes of complex structure, to ensure a tight fit to the hydraulic inner wall of the pipe, absorb water while moving inside the pipe to clear the pipeline of various types of dirt, and thus increase the capacity and extend the service life of pipelines. Description of technology The aim of the project is to provide flexible and mechanically strong organic-inorganic composite materials for use in the oil industry as a cleaning "scraper" of the the inner cavity of the pipeline. Technology is a composite of hydrogel "scrapers" with the desired properties for the cleaning of the interior of the main oil and gas pipelines and conduits of various diameters and complex profile of mechanical impurities. This technology allows cleaning the pipeline from the various types of dirt, and thus increasing the capacity and extending the service life. Advantages / useful properties • can freely pass through the pipes of complex profile (different diameters and shapes) • provide a snug fit of the hydraulic pipes to the inner wall • provide fire and explosion safety • adsorbs water while moving inside the pipe www.cest.kz • can be used into the pipelines without standard cameras of the "scraper" Market potential / application: The end user of composite hydrogel scrapers is JSC "KazTransOil". In the course of work on the project is expected to reach: 1) the development of technologies for production of composite hydrogel scrapers with specified physical-chemical and physical-mechanical properties; 2) testing hydrogel scrapers in laboratory conditions on the pipeline model that most closely matches the actual conditions; 3) conducting pilot examinations of the scrapers on basis of the proposed technology within the framework of system of "KazTransOil". Science and Technology Center of "KazTransOil" agrees to provide selected areas of the main oil pipeline for pilot testing of composite hydrogel scrapers. Stage of development: The project is at the stage of laboratory research and is working on finding the best recipe for hydrogel scrapers for industrial scale and further pilot production. Status of intellectual property protection: There are two innovative patents, which belongs to the "Institute of Polymer Materials and Technologies." Opportunities for cooperation: The company "Institute of Polymer Materials and Technologies" is considering the possibility of cooperation with stakeholders in oil and gas industry, and discusses the possibility of licensing the technology.
