British painter David Eustace was born in Birmingham in 1950. At
school his art teachers recognised his talent and encouraged him
to follow a career in art, but owing to financial constraints he was
forced to take up a carpentry apprenticeship. It was not until he
was 21 that he was able to return to education, when he took an Art
Foundation Course at Sutton Coldfield School of Art, Birmingham,
followed by a degree course in Fine Arts at Exeter College of Art
and teacher training at Leicester Polytechnic. After completing
his training David Eustace spent six years living and working as a
muralist in the USA.
Since returning to the UK in 1986 David has divided his time
between being a professional painter and playing music - for 25
years he was drummer in a blues band, Junkyard Angels, and he
now plays in a jazz quartet, Shufflebones.
David Eustace’s work has been exhibited throughout the UK, his
very successful solo shows including the Royal Albert Museum Art
Gallery, Exeter, Highgate Gallery, and the Rona Gallery, London.
David Eustace has also won a number of awards including
membership of the Royal Society of British Artists in 2003, and
in the same year he became winner of the RBA David Wolfers
Memorial Prize.

Peter Howson OBE

Madonna, Bob Geldof and David Bowie are all collectors of Peter Howson’s work. Peter Howson was a central figure in the ‘The New
Glasgow Boys’, a group formed in the 1980’s, working in Glasgow and influenced by this revolutionary, radical and important art movement.
This radical nature is clear from his career moves: he left the Glasgow School of Art at 17 to join the British Army, Lothian Branch of the Royal
Fusiliers, and travel the world. Later, he worked as a labourer and landscape gardener, growing to love body building.
This physicality is embodied in Peter Howsen’s art and his boldly delineated black and red figures are fearsome and overbearing. Howson
travelled to Bosnia in the 1990’s to work on canvasses for the Imperial War Museum’s war exhibition. He suffered hallucinations and dysentery,
but with typical gusto, returned to finish the commission and to salvage his mental health. Later, he worked with John Cox, the director
of Scottish Opera, on his production of Don Giovanni, creating a fiercely dark and original set to act as a backdrop to Giovanni’s wild and
debased life experiences.
Peter Howson is exhibited widely, by John McEnroe in his New York gallery amongst others. He is listed as one of the 500 most important
artists in Phaidon’s 20th Century Art book. His powerful, passionate, distinctive paintings are instantly recognizable to his large band of
collectors.

Jonathan Robertson
22” x 24”
Oil On Canvas
He was born in Banff in 1947 and trained at Glasgow School
of Art. He has exhibited widely at home and abroad including
the Artists Union Gallery Moscow, Barbican, Royal Glasgow
Institute, Royal Scottish Academy, Scottish Society of Artists,
Smith Institute Sterling and the Mall Galleries, London. His
work is highly collectable and is now represented in the
institutional collections of Arthur Andersen and Co., Ernst
and Young, Scottish Television plc, Glasgow Art Gallery, the
Universities of Strathclyde and Stirling, Hilton Hotel and
Loretto School.
Jonathan is perhaps best known for his printmaking
techniques and has had shows in both the Glasgow and
Edinburgh print studios and a solo exhibition at the original
Print Shop in Glasgow. However, it is Jonathan`s recent oil
paintings that have brought an increasing following amongst
Thompson`s clients. These are colourful oils populated with
sturdy, naïve figures in narrative poses, each infused with a
natural wit and good humour

Chung Shek
Chung Shek became interested in art during early childhood in the Netherlands and is largely self-taught. Original works by the likes of
Vermeer, Ingres and Bouguereau greatly influenced him and focussed the direction of his work towards the realistic genre of paintings. The
versatility of oils naturally gravitates him to using it as his preferred medium.
While his compositions are contemporary in style, they are firmly classical in execution. The modernity and high-impact of his work are
rooted in mastering traditional artistic techniques such as sfumato, chiaroscuro, the use of dramatic lighting effect and flamboyant and
richly saturated colour compositions.
This strong foundation he has gave him the confidence and motivation to produce and sell professional work by the time he reached his
mid-twenties.
Human figures and the female form is a recurring theme in traditional European paintings.

Heather Soutar

Oil On Canvas
Heather was born in Glasgow and has had a lifelong interest in
the arts. Although trained as a primary school teacher she now
teaches piano privately in Dundee, her home for more than thirty
years. With no formal art training, Heather has developed her
own style and method of painting which allows her to express the
idiosyncratic images which appeal to her. She enjoys the absurdities
of life which make us smile and look at ourselves in unexpected
ways. Her infuences come from several sources, including idyllic
childhood holidays on the south coast of England, her collection
of illustrated children’s books, classical music, the theatre and the
general quirkiness of everyday life. Several Scottish galleries show
Heather’s paintings and she has also exhibited at the Glasgow Art
Fair and the Affordable Art Fair in London. Many of her works are
held in private collections both in the UK and abroad.

Tina Spratt
Tina Spratt was born in Somerset in 1976. She completed her
education at the University of Wolverhampton, graduating in
1998 with a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Illustration.
However, Tina’s passion for painting and drawing the human figure
persuaded her to concentrate on a professional career in fine art.
Tina has previously exhibited works at the 1999 Royal Bath & West
of England Art Show, together with a highly successful debut at
the Maze Gallery in Cardiff that autumn. Since this debut, she has
featured on BBC Radio and on national television. She was also
selected to compete in the annual BP National Portrait Competition
in London and participated in the 2005 London Contemporary Arts
Fair. Her work was first debuted in Dublin in the OisÃn Gallery’s
Summer Event Exhibition in 2005.
Attracted to the methods of painters such as Lucian Freud and
Rembrandt, Tinas own approach involves emphasising light and
mood. Her present style has been developed through many
years of experimenting with palette, textures and perspectives—
although the inclusion of fabric within her compositions has always
been an enduring feature.

In the context of profound social and cultural change, artists
have employed radical approaches to address the body, as both
subject and object, and as a means of exploring themes and
individuality. The question of how to represent the human figure
has preoccupied artists since the earliest times. Many of the great
creative struggles of the modern era can be seen as attempts to
move beyond or away from studio conventions to achieve a more
authentic relationship with the human subject.
Technological advances in photography in the twentieth century
have led to its increasingly important and innovative role in artistic
expression - be it as the final creation or part of a process. Tinas
choice to photograph her subjects and reconstruct the image in
oil does not entirely result in a photographic likeness. Instead, she
captures an atmosphere and beautifully reveals private, transitory
moments.
