River Heritage Quilters’ Guild Volume 25 Issue 04 Quilt Chatter www.riverquilters.org (Meetings on 2nd Monday) April 2014 WOW! What a wonderful retreat. I hope yours was as good as mine - plenty of shopping, friends, food, and laughter. I think you will agree we had some beautiful show and tell on Saturday. As I write this newsletter it is the first day of SPRING and it has been a long time coming. Spring has definitely arrived, and Missouri is in all its glory. Trees are budding and birds singing. Yellow is the predominant color and the color I always associate with the first signs of spring. Forsythia bushes are in bloom, and yellow jonquils will soon burst from their bulbs. Even yellow dandelions will soon appear. Whenever quilters talk about yellow, it's not always kindly. It is often dismissed and considered the most difficult color to use successfully in a quilt because it is so dominant. However, adding yellow can infuse light and create a contrast in a dark quilt. It can convey a message - remember those yellow ribbons? I hope the yellow of spring creates sunlight and warmth to your days. Spread it around just like you would in a quilt. May you have lovely, sunny days full of many blossoms and lots of laughter during these April days. Happy sewing, Chris Ludwig, President APRIL PROGRAM The April program will be at the Cape Girardeau Public Library. It will be a trunk show given by Joyce Kinder, quilter and owner of the new shop, Treasured Threads Quilting, in Dexter, MO. She will also have items from her shop for sale and will show project samples for her upcoming classes. Please bring a check or cash for your purchases.—Betty Meyer Co-Vice President BLOCK OF THE MONTH The blocks of the month for April are featuring the flying geese. The easier block is called Two Patch Quilt. The less easy block is Trade Winds. If you make both blocks, you can enter the drawing twice. Remember to put your name in the basket for the $5 gift certificate drawing. At our December meeting, we will show the quilt tops that have been made with this year's blocks. Those attending the December meeting will vote on the quilt tops. Gift certificates will be given for the top three quilt tops.— Jeanette Buchheit THE NATIONAL QUILT MUSEUM, PADUCAH, KY New Quilts from an Old Favorite: Carolina Lily March 14 - June 10 The Gilded Lily March 14 - June 10 Distortion from the European Patchwork Meeting April 4 - June 24, 2014 The international competition featuring the outstanding work of over 40 artists.
